Thanks for that explanation , now I understand , it was a picture of a Short which finally prompted me to ask .
There is certainly photographic evidence of one in RNZAF roundels !
Thank you for your reply. I didn’t realise that this was the case. Seems a bit odd to me, but as it’s his train and all that he has the right to do as he pleases with it.
I note from a recent thread on the Wings of NZ forum, that is has reportedly moved. Is it indeed the case?
Not sure about that , but the Hudson from the same collection has recently moved to near Nelson for restoration .
U-2 production had ceased when the essentially similar TR-1 was ordered in the 1980’s. The TR-1 was renumbered U-2S when they returned to the USA in the 1990’s.
The TR-1 looks similar to the U-2 but it is a larger aircraft all round , I cannot see any significant comminality between the two apart from role , layout and manufacturer .
Thanks for that . When the Sterling tail wheels were fixed in the down position were the doors left on or removed ?
Is it me or does that prop look odd on the Yak ?
But I thought the question related to a PR Mk IV not a PR MkVII ?
I can’t see either location attracting punters away from the other with them being opposite end of the planet.. Good to know other locations can match OW though. If they can match that then their success should be in no doubt.
Totally agree it is just such a shame , from my point of view , that Biggleswade is so far away from Ohope !
There were two windscreen types for early Masters .
Thanks for that , I am at the start of some house renovations and the file is in storage at the moment . However from recall , Ereminsky took off from North Weald as the section leader with 151 Sqn , on loan from 56 Sqn , on their return from patrol he was seen to leave the formation and decend into the fog and hit a house somewhere possibly near the approach to Kenley ? I was told that because he was not with 56 at the time of his death they did not do the book work and neither did 151 as he did not belong to them , but I have no idea if that is in reality the truth .
I do know someone who knew both pilots and the next time I see them (in June) I will ask them what they can remember .
I would also be interested , he was injured in the Norwegian campaign . I was told a number of years ago that he died while on Malta . He and F/O L Ereminsky both went to the same school pre war , I have tried to find out the details of the loss of these two pilots . F/O L Ereminsky was killed much earlier in the war and for some reason seems largely to have been missed by most of the books .
It was parked to the left of the Navy Havard .
i see that the alpine fighters Hurri was absent from warbirds over Wanaka over the easter weekend. Has it left the country?
Clearly you were not there to see that it was it fact at Wanaka, where it is based , and on display , though it did not leave the ground .
Didn’t Ray Sturrivant ? write a book about them ?
From recollection the Air Pictorial pictures were of British and American aircraft like the Aircobra and Apollo , well the one I have are but they are unfortunately stored just now .
