Nobody would be let loose with AK-47’s, for a start the weapon is highly illegal in the UK.

Not strictly true,as it is still legal to own an ak ,may be not a 47 version but one of its brothers ,as long as they are manual strait pull ,which means the weapon has to be cocked after every shot.Which to be perfectly honest makes no difference after being hit with a 7.62 round.;)
Mr tebbits idea though basically flawed, in his now renowned tactless way he isn’t too far off the truth.
I think the peer comes from a generation which were brought up on war and guns ,thus not seeing them as a status symbol.
Today’s yob culture think owning or carrying a weapon makes them more powerful, they dont care about the aftermath of a shooting as there long gone then.
Now how to introduce the little tykes to a regulated gun community who will try to teach and inform also show the wounds from firearms.
    How about the army…..

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow – Laurence Olivier
    Gladiator – Oliver Reed

wasnt the crow among those too.
With hollywood virtually crippled by the writers strike how come they need to remake classics if that much talent is missed.
Slightly biased here though ,as i hope the dambusters is remade in one form or another.
Ide like to think that one day big screen actors would one day work for profit share in a low cost movie,if not just to show us thier talent.
Example sly Stallone fantastic performance in copland. So putting a big name to a budget release or art house film could resurrect a ailing career.

Exactly why I said it should be done sustainably.;)

I see absolutely noproblem with Humans hunting for luxury goods or fun so long as the manner in which it is done is sustainable.

The problem is whales are migrant creatures ,using different corners of the world for feeding breeding and calving ect.

Human beings are hunters, we have exactly the same ‘right’ to hunt whales as Lions do to hunt Zebra, its exactly the same principle.

I agree, but one vital fact is missing from all this ,evolution ,that’s what separates us from our animal cousins, we know are actions are killing this planet, we know whats morally write and wrong killing an animal just because its horn is supposed to be an aphrodisiac ,clubbing seals to death for their pelts when man made materials are far better ,is morally wrong. hunting the leviathans of the sea to extinction just because its a tradition to eat whale meat is also wrong.
Given our exhalted position at the very top of the food chain its our duty to keep this world alive.

Why is Japanese people wanting to eat whale meat any different to you, I or anybody else wanting to eat Cod, Haddock, Crab, Beef, Chicken, Rabbit, Goose, Turkey, Duck, Lamb, Pork etc etc etc?

I agree, but i think its folks views on it not being a sustainable food source. most of the various whale types are teetering on extinction due to mans pollution of their environment and also years of hunting.
May be i will be interesting when the cod stocks start to get seriously depleted ,like we are being warned about, and the unthinkable happens and our native staple fish cod becomes extinct , then lets see who breaks fishing embargoes then.
Has any one here ever tried whale meat is it worth all the fuss.
