The new SY-80 fire control radar from the Zhuhai exhibits. It seems that the SY-80 is the export designation but on the processing unit on the third picture you can see “JL-10G.”

The JL-10A is the system installed on the JH-7A. A new variant, this seems to be. Much smaller from the looks of it than the JL-10A.

That also means that after a second contract, there are negotiable options for other contracts beyond that 200 number, if the procurement of other kits are desired.

Wrong, there is nothing at all about anything in additional to the 200.

Read the article. the second contract is for the second half of the 200 agreed to in 1996. Right now it is “paused” because the first part has been fulfilled with 105 kits delivered. But the contract for last 95 isn’t signed yet. This is clear from the report.

This is actually new details that we didn’t know before about the 1996 deal. The 1996 contract is a deal for the first 105 with a second contract, or an option, for the last 95.

Right now the option hasn’t been picked up yet.

And that the kits are not -obligatory- for purchase in the first place to build the planes, rather as an option.

Wouldn’t want to comment on that. Speculating whether China would be allowed to build the J-11 outside the scope covered by the contracts isn’t part of the pertinent information in the articles.

Kommersant’s sources advance several arguments in favor of this version. During President Putin’s just-concluded visit to China, the Chinese did not express any interest in continuing deliveries of Su-30MKK fighters built at the Komsomol-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO). The company is completing deliveries under the last operating contract to 2006, after which there are effectively no more orders. If a contract is concluded with Brazil, production of the Su-35 will be set up at KnAAPO.

Now, this could be a mistake and it was not the MKK but the second SU-27SK contract and “continuing deliveries” of the J-11 kits that China had not agreed to.

Or it could mean that China is moving away from Russian-built Flankers in general.

But there is suddenly a lot of stories of China not wanting any more Flankers.

It could be nothing but the press misinterpreting contract obligations or there could fire behind all the smoke.

Now, it seems that China has not cancelled their licensed production, or is it all a coverup?

Interesting. Knyshev is saying that the second stage contract is not signed yet. So while not a “cancelling,” Knyshev does admit that delivery has been “paused” or suspended (which doesn’t conflict with the original Tass report.)

The earlier report also said that the Su-27SKM is in China to convince the Chinese of continuing.

So right now, the second contract, which sounds like an contractual “option,” hasn’t been signed. With an option, the buyer could resign, change the terms or simply allowed the option to expire.

on the K8. well if the thing has FBW that can simulate other plane types as well as a proper glass cockpit, why go to all the extra expense of the L15 (which has the more primitive proposed cockpit of the two!)? surely just the extra of being able to go just beyound the sound barrier isnt worth all that.

The K8V ISFTA (Inflight Stability Test Aircraft) has been used to simulate other planes since 1998. That hasn’t been transferred to ordinary K-8s and I am not sure they are packaging FBW with the glass cockpit in new K-8s although it would seem reasonable.

But the L-15 is a totally different animal. Read the long story on the L-15 on page 6 of this thread (http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33719&page=6&pp=30).

Keeping in mind that the K-8 is firmly subsonic, the main points in the article on the L-15:

1) It will have FBW,
2) supersonic, mach 1.6
3) it will have high performance; it has TWR of over 1.2,
4) has an controllable angle of attack of over 30 degrees which, according to Hongdu) is greater than that for the F-16 or Su-27,
5) long service life of 10,000
6) a heavy load, including wingtip rails that are able to carry the PL-8

The artcile said the high TWR and load is intended to give the L-15 a large potential for future development of different variants, including a dedicated attack version.

This is the first foreign buy of the MA60-500 frieght version. Most of the MA60s (Y-7 followup) sold are passenger craft.

Zimbabwe, China sign multibillion dollar deals

photograph by Zimbabwe and China had signed trade and investment agreements covering power generation, steel making, telecommunications and the purchase of aircraft, reporters said yesterday, citing Chinese and Zimbabwean companies.

The documents ranged from governmental economic and technical co-operation to Zimbabwe’s purchase of aircraft from China. According to the agreements Zimbabwe would buy two MA60 cargo aircraft from China.
