Forget An-225 (unless to transport space module), An-124 with 777 engines would be quite impressive.

What China, Russia and Ukraine need is somethings like a C-17. Perhaps they can develop something new instead of keep building older designs.

The UK’s C-17 experiment is actually quite an eye opener. According to the AI and AFM, the four-plane lease was able to take care of something like 90% of all outsized loads that would have required leasing a Condor before. The RAF said it was among the best and most problem free programs that they ever had and had stated that they want to buy the four planes once the lease is up though they are still heavily commited to the A400M.

I think it’s time the old commie bloc rip off the Globe Master ๐Ÿ˜€

is that also true for airbus ac?

Pretty much from what I read. Airbus and Boeing usually give their customers a choice of avionics and engines. They usually pick American simply because those are trusted systems certified for many years by the US FAA.

Lots of countries, China included, gear their safety standards inline with the American FAA.

With such a large numbers of potential sales the Chinese home market, the ARJ21 is really one of the few projects outside the West COULD have allowed non-western firms a chance. In fact, in the old China before Deng’s revolution those 500 planes would have been installed products from Chinese avionics/electronic firms. But then again before Deng’s economic revolution, China would never have needed 500 ARJ21s.

Even the Russian Regional Jet needs Boeing as a consultant and marketer in order gain any potential for sales outside Russia. I do believe Russian airlines like Aeroflot and Sibir are more likely to buy Russian aircraft with Russian avionics though. Partly because they have smaller international volumes and are under less pressure by foreign customers.

Right now, the only place for China’s local avionics firm to gain experience and sales is the military projects. This is pretty much the same for every other country in outside the US and Western Europe. Actually, it’s worse for most of them than China because there are very few commercial projects in those countries that can expect sales in the 100s for the home market.

On the flip side, American avionics designs, techniques and standards from the civilian project will eventually filter back to the Chinese firms that supply the homegrown military jets.

A China Daily report on the involvement of the American avionics giant Rockwell Collins in China’s key civil aviation project. You simply can’t build a viable plane for the private market without American subsystems because airlines (including China’s own) won’t buy it unless they’re there.

US aviation firm takes off in China
    ( 2004-01-05 02:03) (China Daily)

“The US firm was selected as the sole avionics supplier for the domestic regional jet ARJ21, which will have 79 to 99 seats, to be produced by the State-owned aviation giant China Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) I.

“It was reported that Rockwell Collins will be responsible for the equipment of 500 ARJ21 planes in the coming 20 years with its aviation electronics devices worth US$230 million.”

Iยดm looking for images and info on the following plane Aermacchi AL.60 has anybody got any info at hand.

There are actually quite a bit of info and pictures of the AL-60 on the web.

“The Aermacchi AL60 is an American-designed Italian utility light transport aircraft that entered service in 1961. The Aermacchi AL60 is powered by a Textron Lycoming IO-720-A1A flat-eight piston engine providing a top speed of 251 kmh and a range of 1037 km. The Aermacchi AL60 carries a flight crew of two and can also carry six passengers; two litters, one seated passenger and an attendant; or 1440 lbs of freight in the cabin.” (1)

Very interesting news. Haven’t come across anything about interest in producing the An-124 or -225 before. At an AVIC conference two years ago, the plan annnounced was that large frieght/airliner would be tackled in about 10 years time with current focus on feeder craft and medium size lift (ARJ21, Y8 variants, MA60, assembly of Embraer ERJ 145, etc.)

Oops, the adjective both acts as an conjunction of the two items and thus therefore plural so I incorrectly used was instead of were.

I think the Tu-330’s option of the two engines is more economical, ie two turbo fan engines as opposed to 4 turbo props.

The low fuel comsumption specs for the Tu-330 is based on the propfan not the turbofan. The fuel savings between two larger engines and four smaller ones of comparable design and thrust is not that great (though there is always a little better efficiency with fewer engines because of various inperfections.)

A well-designed turbofan, even the high-bypass commercial ones, cannot be more efficient than a well-designed turboprop. Turboprops are limited by the need to keep propeller speed subsonic. But as long as the specs call for a subsonic plane, the turboprops are the more efficient choice. In fact, turbofans were created as a compromise between turboprops and turbojets.

Now, the propfan is basically a turbofan with a huge by-pass ratio where the fan (or fans) that is normally enclosed by the nacelle is left open. By the by-pass alone it would be more efficient than the turbofan but it is not expected to be that more efficient than a turboprop with the same prop/fan blade diameter.

But the propfan is still considered new/groundbreaking/iffy tech. Obviously with something new, the propfan engine is far more expensive to build than a turboprop.

Why can’t Israel use Chinese F-6’s ( second-hand cheap from Pakistan) or (gasp) the F-7PG. They would still be able to beat the inferior US forces during war-games 200 out of 211.

All kidding aside, against a F-15 in WVR combat, an Israeli dude would simply KICK ARSE in a F-7PG!

    L15 at Zhuhai

Could be but TVBS is Hong Kong telly, not an official PRC station. Usually you see unveiling of new aircraft on CCTV first. Also, the nose in the first picture looks a little too long.

BUT a Chinese forum post is reporting that the Hongdu L15 is way ahead of schedule and will be revealed at Zhuhai.

It is said to resembles in looks to the RoC’s IDF (F1CK). Flight tests are expected to end by 2005 with mass production by 2006.
