A 3500km ballistic missile definitely is almost certain to be tested by firing into the ocean. If the thing goes off course for a fraction of a degree, it could end up anywhere. Even into the ocean, the nation conducting the test would give coordinates of the impact area to ward off traffic during the test period.
I believe that Pakistan short and medium range ballistic missiles are solid fuel. There was Chinese story from a little while back that Pakistan is working on a muliti-staged solid propellant ballistic that is 3,000 km in range.

Anyways, do you guys think the war would’ve spread all over the world, I would bet North Korea once again would run over South Korea if WWIII.
A war in Europe would have sparked off one in Asia. In fact, the Russians would have nuked China at the same time it did the US and the West.
Remember, the Western alliance at that point included China. The USSR had to fight on two fronts during any hostility with NATO (Hackett’s second book included the Chinese action against both the USSR and its Vietnamese allies.)
The Strategic Triangle or the “China Card” created by Nixon was considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, geostrategic stroke in the Cold War.
The US had listening posts in China all along the Russian border then. China’s alliance with the West only ended in 1989 when Tianenmen Square, Poland and the Fall of the Berlin Wall all happened.

I am really interested how would’ve the war turned in the other parts, like over North Pole and Northern Pacific. I would bet Soviet and American bombers would start flying over the North Pole before the fight for Air Superiority went ahead.
I think the Russians would have lost badly on land in Asia and at sea in the Pacific if the war stayed conventional. The amount of air and naval fire power based in Japan by the US and the Japanese were pretty overwhelming. On land, the million-man Red Army in the Far East would have been in very tough shape on the end of a long supply line surrounded by hostiles.
Yup, look at any number of photos with MKKs taking off and you’ll see the constricted nozzle that looks exactly like the one on the right.
There is no way to tell. If there are any pictures at all of a WS-10A in a plane, they would be of the test J-11 with a different engine in each nacelle.
Hence, it is posted under speculation 🙂
