The JH-7 caused immense interest back then. Look up the Jane’s Defense Weeklies and the Annual All the World’s Aircraft from 1990-1995 at your local library (I have).
Because China didn’t officially acknowledge its existence until the Zhuhai show of 1996, there was the same kind of speculation in the JH-7 in defense publications as you do today in the J-10.
The difference was there wasn’t an internet then.
By the time the internet came along, we have the J-10, FC-1 and FTC-2000 that we saw development in front of our eyes.
Look, we SAW the FIRST pictures of these planes on the internet. So of course, they’ll be more interesting than the older JH-7.
But wait till we get the first high quality pictures of the JH-7A (and we will). The Chinese boards will go nuts.

Then you have the horrible FTC-2000 which is nothing but a MiG-21/J-7 with an FC-1 (JF-17) front put on it.
Horrible in looks? Or performance and ability to carry out its job? It’s an evolvement of a time-tested system (JJ-7) with a difference.
The avionics and cockpit layout are beyond any Chinese trainer that came before it. It is able accomodate a large radar and possibly BVR.
It also has the J-7E’s double delta wing for high maneuvrability.
And it tops out at Mach 1.8. It’s just a trainer.
Of course, most of us want the L-15 but that’s years down the road.
I’d settle for more pictures of the K-8E in Egyptian colors.
Here’s a look at the radar capacity in the construction of FC-1 prototype 01. I would bet it is larger than the radome in any Mig-21 derivative that’s limited by the intake circumfirence

When the Kopyo was marketed for the FC-1, this clearly suggests that the size of the FC-1 antenna should be about the same as the MiG-21bis, which is upgraded by the Kopyo to the now UPG standard.
It tells us that the FC-1 has the capacity for at least the Kopyo. It might or might not be able to accomodate something bigger.
It actually has a good size nose
Another point of consideration is the much better view, especially of the rear from a PG, as compared to a MF or Bis in WVR combat.
The Lancer and Bison upgrades has improved frontal view but the spine precludes any improvement of the rear.

The Mig-21F and its derivatives are much more maneuverable than the Mig-21MF/Bis line. Chinese pilots complained about the J-7C/D’s maneuverability compared to the basic J-7IIs even though the J-7C has a more powerful engine and better TWR.
The PG goes much further and is a far more maneuverable development of the J-7II with a new wing and a whole battery of combat flaps and lift devices.
The PG should outclass any Mig-21 variant in WVR combat. Its weakness is the lack of BVR and smaller radar capacity.
Hmmm, maybe the one above the mountain line looks closer to a Mi-8.
Okay, I made a comparision but it’s too hard to tell. What do you think?

But the Uranium or Plutonium used in the reactors is not pure enough to create an actual nuclear explosion. The Process of reacting in a plutonium or uranium reactor creates the Plutonium or U235 atoms required to build a weapon but the spent fuel rods have to be processed and enriched to extract the weapons grade material. The so called explosions at nuclear power plants are usually pressure and heat related explosions… not chemical and certainly not nuclear fission or fusion reaction related.
No one is saying a nuclear explosion. It’s a explosion which comes from excess pressure built by uncontrolled heat and rupturing of the containment body.
The deadly danger come from the spewing of radioactive material into the environment such as Chernobyl – there never an atomic explosion in Ukraine.
Any nuclear reactor whether it is land or seabased is most dangerous when the coolant system is not well looked after. The Russian could have the best designed ship-based reactors but it won’t matter if the funds to upkeep the ship is lacking and maintenance of the reactor goes to pot.

That’s exactly the problem. Human Computers on Peter the Great or the Kursk, whether in the engine or torpedo room, are probably not operating at top capacity when deprived of enough funds for training, food and simple comforts.

On closer look, the target helo does have more of the slimmer shape of the Hind than the Mi-8.
Equador has HN-5s? I doubt that China can export military equipment to South America without getting a lot of attention from the US (especially things like MANPADs).
