YES …

Most of these discussions are completely useless, since actually no-one here knows the real pecifications, the PLAAF’s requirements and CAC’s solution to cope with that … cost, material, internal structure, and so on … and surely most of us here are all aerospace-egineers on stealth-technology.:diablo:

Sorry, but if I remember correctly … then You said “piant coming off after first flight … because of forward fuselage movements !””

IMO that’s clearly and really You shouldn’t deny a proposed manufacturing or design or engineering fault. Otherwise the question is even more stupid since I told You this was take before the 1. flight !

Seems to be a strange tech demonstator as it doesn’t demonstate a critical technology, namely the weapons bays.

Come on … why should they build a “prototype” or “demonstrator” like that … without a weapon bay ?? Even the pure-tech-demonstrators YF-22 and 23 featured one. It would be completely stupid to build one with that different parts and later fly another one with the required internat changes with a bay.

Hmm, some of the superb-finish paint came off apparently, so that forward inlet section moves I guess?

If You would have checked Your reference, You would have noticed that this picture was already posted on December 31 … so prior to the first flight and
1. it shows the one with the yellow parts (the AL-31F powered one), which has some of these yellow parts on the right front fuselage
2. and those things were also suggested to be engine covers …

So no reason to suggest a design fault.

So is there a second prototype or not?

Not sure if there are really already two prototypes. All I got from a very “reliable” source from China is that this prototype has been re-engined for the first flight with completely new indigenious engines. I wait for more info and at least so far had no timne to check, when each picture appeared, when we first had the “feeling” of the different engine and if we got any pictures of the AL-31FN-powered one since then.

Yepp … but there are still rumours that the J-20 already flew … and in mind of the not too visible mountains near CAC (at least in fog) this could be one, when it flew at the secret Dingxin AB … (again just a rumour).

And I was wondering how long it was before Chinese fanboys start claiming the J-20 is the best program evah. 😎

And why has it always to be one of these extreme positions for a Chinese type:

1. A design stolen or copied ? (and therefore useless) … or a design developed with Russian help … and therefore fine (but surely not as good as the T-50)

or

2. the ultimate hyper-fighter developed by the upcoming Chinese avaition specialists. (… not even chinese analysts claim that !)

I really can’t get it ! Maybe we should accept that CAC has progressed to the point where they used to incorporate their own solotions … based on the PLAAF’s requirements and CAC’s technical capabilities … and these might include some design solutions “borrowed” from existing types … but also very own ones.

And since a stealthy fighter and its capabilities is not only determined by its external shape but even more by the integration of everything (avionics, powerplant, weapons, structure, materials, detail solutions like surface tratment/quality, sems and edges … and COST !) I propose to make a break with all these “analysis” until we get more information.

Sorry … had to be said guys.
