J-10B prototype 1031
Aren’t these older pictures ?? … I’m not sure.
Deino
Any latest news on these two projects … esp. on the C-2 !??
Are there any info about additional prototypes or so ?
Thanks in advance, Deino
@ insomnia.delhi
No … I knew that this would open up a can of worms ! Sorry.
I really don’t want to compare both projects and esp. don’t see the J-20 as a Sino-Raptor, since – like You said – we really have nearly NO information about the program. AS such comparing only the outer lines – like often done with the T-50 … I remember all the S-duct, compressor-blade and canopy-discussions – are useless, unless anything is known about the materials, the sub-systems, cost …. and so on.
BUT … if You tell the public: “Hey, our fighter xyz will fly then, can do that and will be produced in that time in so many numbers !” … You can’t blame the public for being compared to those statements. If You don’t tell anything … make such surprising unveilings and tell nothing about it, then there’s nothing to be compared about on “own” predictions. And in that point the Russian PR wasn’t that good … so better no PR.
Just my two cents.
Deino
Calm down your bravura, please. Do not behave yourself like infant fan-boy! I understand your feelings, because I had such the same a year ago, but I did not write such… nonsense. By the way, I’ll admit that I was wrong when i did not believe in the existence of J-20.
Thanks for admitting that … and Sorry, for being maybe sometimes TOO over-enthusiastic (maybe like You for the T-50). O.K.
But … and here’s one thing You can’t deny are the CHinese different. They were not proclaiming anything … they are just doing their things on their own way – I think You agree, no-one thought this would happen so early … with such a radical different design (regardless any analysis in pros and cons) and then with two protptypes at the same time powered by two different engines, seems to be a Chineses-ATF !
On the other side there are hundreds of press announcments, each new titbit is proclaimed as a hyper-super-news reagarding the T-50 and the Indian development. There are reports from the Russian officials and military leaders that they will procure x-hundred new airplanes and so and so … in China nothing is said and as such it’s only failr to be judged by the things that are and on what was told. As such, the CHinese have at least at the moment the better position.

Via =GT from CDF ….
😎
Fine … and thanks a lot for sharing !
However I think that – at least CAC did it with the J-10 – the AL-31F is IMO most likely a FN with the gear-box located on the bottom.
Deino
…
3) J-10’s first flight was on January 11th also.
….
As far as I know the J-10’s first flight was on 23. March 1998 !??
Deino
BUT: I want PICTURES !!!!
Deino:cool:
What the…
flight called off today!
Any idea why ??? …esp. after all this hype.
Deino:(
It’s becomming increasingly obvious this aircraft has already flown before. They painted it for this high publicity event. This is no more a first flight than the Olympic Games opening ceremony was unrehearsed.
YES …. I can’t think that they try a simultaneous first flight of a new type with two birds each powered by a different engine.
… and – even if some won’t like to hear it – it is clear political “SIGN” to Russia and India with all their media hype around the T-50/PAK-FA, … !
They are talking too much … in Chengdu they are working.
Deino
PS: But I hope all goes well and none of them will end as a burning dot in the landscape.
Oh, my…
TWO J-20 prototypes with SAME 2001 serial number taxiing around CAC field at SAME time. 😮
So You have seen them both ?? … pictures, I need pictures !!!
Deino 😮
Yes … but both pictures were posted to compare the WS-10A and the AL-31F as fitted to the Flanker in comparison to the strange J-20-pictures !
Hmmm … that’s really strange these two different nozzles ! 😮
With the picture on the bottom (the older one) I thought to be sure that’s the AL-31FN … but now … looks very strange and more like the WS-10A.
Otherwise I can’t think that they already have both prototypes finished.
Let’s wait and see ….
I see it similar. Without a capable domestic engine it is a technology demonstrator at first.
AMEN … and a happy new year since I’m back from the Winter holydays.
As such – and even if this can be regarded a more than HUGE step forward – it can be seen like the YF-22 to the F-22A or the EAP to the Typhoon. But I think it seems more promising and already more mature than the T-50.
IMO these are AL-31FN – the same engines (or at best uprated) as used in the J-10 – which will require an intensive redesign for the reportedly bigger or at least if compatible more powerful WS-15 when finished in a few (!?) years. That again would require additional testing and IMO most likely redesigns …
So again: A huge step I really didn’t expect that early … but stil a long way to go to be operational.
