That sounds as if the re-engined and re-designed Mk. 2 will end up as the same underpowered, too heavy and less maneuverable fighter the Mk 1 already is (in comparison to the expectations) !!??

So why then all this mess ???

Agreed … but regarding the similarities, the date of the video … I simply don’t think that this is a Russian modified A-50.

I think it’s just the first prototype of the version onve proposed for CHina even without its radar, since this was installed in Israel … and later dismantled … In China this particular aircraft (if it is) arrived without a radar.

Regarding the date of the video (May 2009) I doubt that this is a very new M-version especially since it has all the features, the first Chinese machine had …esp. the large horizontal plates along the main-gear-sponsons are replaced by the two inverted V-shaped ones. :confused:

One info I have is an ovservation of at least one grey painted “B” from 6. June 2010. So besides the 01-protptype (now 1031) and 03 (now 1033) this seems most likely another one (maybe preserial). But it could also be no. 1033 in a different scheme as such making two flying prototypes.

The latest “NewS” however is yet another yellow “B” from the 10. September … and one rumours says this “could” have been the no. 04-prototype during its maiden flight.

The upgrade is probably similar to the Su-27SM upgrade.

Are You sure that the Su-33 are flying with AL-31FM1 ??
