IRIAF manufactures Iran’s first radar-evading fighter plane
Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA – Prototype of first Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) radar evading fighter jet was test-flied here Friday, according to IRIAF Commander Brigadier General Pilot, Hassan Shahsafi.

According to Public Relations of the IRIAF, Brigadier General Shahsafi said after the successful test flight of the plane, “In line with Supreme Leader’s nomination of the current Iranian year as the Year for Innovations and Blossoming, we successfully passed the last stage of our first radar evading fighter jet, and are testing a new air-to-air missile to be mounted on it.”
He added, “After a few more tests the radar evading plane project would enter its mass production phase, which would be in early new Iranian year (beginning on March 20th, 2009).”
Shahsafi said that earlier last month the smaller scale model of the same radar evading plane was successfully test-flied, new on which was broadcasted then.
Focusing on the new Iranian made “thermal air-to-air missile”, which has also been tested, he said, “This is one of our thermal air-to-air missiles, fully designed and manufactured at IRIAF industries, whose test was completed at one of the military fields of the country.”
He added, “The thermal missile would be fired by a fighter plane and pursue the fired missile of another plane.”
The final range of the new air-to-air thermal missile is 100 kilometers, according to Brigadier General Shahsafi, that can be further improved for higher altitude flights.
The IRIAF Commander was asked about the measures adopted to deal with the new era wars, particularly after the US invasion against Iraq, and the probability of countering such situations.
He replied, “The air force is a rapid reaction force whose superiority greatly is in the focus of attention in the world today.”
Shahsafi said, “Our air force, due to the strategic importance of the Middle East, and particularly the Persian Gulf region, and our national interests in this region, as well as the West’s need to the existing energy resources here, has adopted an independent doctrine, in which self sufficiency and reliance on own capabilities are our top priorities, based on which we have to the best of our capabilities equipped both our attack and our defense sites with equivalents of world’s most advanced systems.”
Focusing on the present and future perspectives of the IRIAF, he said, “Today, we are capable of 120 sorties of flights at a short period, conducting unprecedented tests, carrying out innovative new missions with various planes, and flying long distances as far as 2,000 kilometers, which is proof for high combat readiness of the IRIAF, which is a necessity keeping in mind the very sensitive conditions we are at.”
He said that the entire productions and trainings of the air force are done inside the country today, based on high level scientific research work, whose result has been quite satisfactory, adding, “We have the Martyr Sattari Air Force University today, where the works of our young scientists and air force students are merged with the achievements of the other similar universities throughout Iran, and scientific model taking is practiced there quite successfully.”

Written is:
1. “The designing phase of Iran’s stealth aircrafts has already completed …” = meaning at best, they choose a final design, and as the Shafaq was unveiled some years ago, even a mock-up built … why is it written, design has now finalised ?? For me a strong indication of a completely different design.
2. “and they are in the manufacturing phase of archetypes, of course, in smaller size,” = what does “archetypes” mean ??? Smaller wind-tunnel models or a flying test-bed in a similar configuration using only a J85 (at best) as maybe as no other engine is available ?? … for me again; they are just beginning to build small sub-scale models for further testing ….. still miles / years away from an actual aircraft !
Or maybe Your translation/interpretation is “better” 😀

The Shafaq picture here presented does not seem to be a mock up but a real prototype and the initial post says they have finished the design of a stealth aircraft most likely is the Shafaq

…The fact that Iran has build the Shafaq based upon the MiG-2000 that is most likely a semi-to full fledged stealth design shows that there is not such gap you are talking.

As far as the Shafaq … there is no prototype built (at least what is reported iat ACIG, and I think on that topic it’s quite a reliable pool for information !)
You are maybe right, that there was a lot of research and even wind-tunnel testing of different configurations – if I remember correct, one with two side intakes and one with a single chin-intake – but since the building of that mock-up and the video, nothing new was reported.
Besides that the most likely reason for that is the missing of an engine to poer that fighter … and so long it’s nothing more than a nice “What-if” !
Additionally there is no MiG-2000, there was no and even if this flase report is repeated 1000-times … there will be no MiG-2000-based design, as the Shafaq is based on the Mukhamedov Vitiaz … a company not very well known for its “successful” designs I think !

I personally think that any country that can develop its own aircraft can also develop its own stealth aircraft or at least aircraft with reduced detectability. The basic principles of stealth are given, formulas and equations are known, prediction software is existing, what is there to be so undoable?
The question remains whether Tehran has enough expertise and money to design their own fighter. If yes, then it likely will have at least some stealth characteristics.
Iran has built several prototypes at least i do not know if they have flown them operationally or are in production among them the Shafaq and the Dorna

Oh come on, Shafaq in production ??? …. nothing heard any more since this video – and here I can only agree with Schorsch ! … if it would be soooo easy to “develop its own stealth aircraft or at least aircraft with reduced detectability”, why was there never any from Russia, from China or even European countries, esp. as this General specifies a “STEALTH” aircraft and not only a stealthy one ???
If Iran would have developed a fighter modern fighter comparable to its other competitors, it still would be an ambitious plan … but as Schorsch said, only a slightly modified, twin-tailed F-5, a tiny trainer …. and many nice models or mock-ups.
In my opinion – even if this may be very unpolite – it’s only a Mullah’s wet dream.

F-35B – STOVLThe short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) F-35 variant left the factory on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and goes to the fuel facility for functional fuel system checks before it is scheduled for delivery to the flight line by the end of January. Its first flight is expected this summer.
Mission systems, or avionics, are the on-board sensors that enable the aircraft to detect, locate, identify, track and target adversaries from long ranges; detect fast-moving incoming threats such as missiles; and receive and transmit large amounts of battle-space information through secure data links. These 5th generation sensors and data links will be integral to providing the warfighter in the air and on the ground a fused picture of the battlespace.
“Testing of this aircraft will represent the fourth tier of our avionics validation process, comprising ground-based laboratory testing, airborne lab testing of individual sensors on surrogate aircraft, airborne testing of the fully integrated mission systems package on the Cooperative Avionics Test Bed, and, finally, airborne testing of the integrated system on an actual F-35,” said Dan Crowley, Lockheed Martin executive vice president and F-35 program general manager.
The aircraft, called BF-4, will carry the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-81 Active Electronically Scanned Array radar and Integrated Communications, Navigation and Identification suite, and the BAE Systems Electronic Warfare system. The Block 0.5 mission systems software, which incorporates more than half of the combat-ready Block 3 software, will drive the system. BF-4 will be updated with additional equipment and software through Block 3, the last block in the System Development and Demonstration program.
The jet is the latest addition to the fleet of five F-35s already undergoing testing. Earlier aircraft are validating F-35 subsystems and flying qualities while retiring technical risk. Great, I received my copy today, the Chinese JH-7 very interesting, it’s full of unique information and pictures, but unfortunately without a cutaway:confused: PP66 JH-7A with X-31 😮
Sorry, but a cutaway – esp. one made by Mike Badrocke – would have been to expensive 🙁 … and regarding the X-31, it’s not exactly a X-31 but a YJ-91

If Ukraine wants to break from the Russian orbit, then the EU/US is the logical option. I wouldn’t rule out some collaborative projects with China, but not the whole strategic alliance thing.
Agreed … and that was not my intention, but I don’t think if many European or US aviation companies will be willing to such “deep” cooperations with Ukrainian companies as the Ukrainian maybe want to keep their own industry alive. !
Therefore a cooperation with China in the L-15, maybe a single-seater version, transports could be realistic (IMO).

The Director of TsAGI has seen 2 chinese ‘5G’ wind-tunnel models, he didn’t look overly concerned- mildly amused even. I guess he must have got a sense of deja-vu with the 1.44.

Any proof on that or once again Russian rumour ?? Do You think CAC or SAC shows their latest wt-models just for fun, especially as Russia is clearly not involved in that project.

All so far posted 1.44-look alikes from China are nothing more than fan-art … and all real ‘5G’ wt-models – if they are at least the latest iteration – do more resemble a F-22 or F-35 general configuration.
