Thoughts on the two unnamed “new” weapons?
I am thinking larger Paveways, Brimstone/JCM, JASSM, etc….
Somebody fudged a decimal point 😉 :stupid:
As of Feb 1st, 2019 it was at 177,000 flight hours.
What Talios pod give (integrated with new helmet).

There is no imagery in that helmet.
The F-15 Advanced Eagles are already equipped with those systems
The only one of those F-15E+ systems that could be better than the current F-35 is the Sniper pod. Then again, the F-35 gets a new one in a couple of years.
For the rest, you seemed to equate basic functionally in the F-15 with advanced capabilities in the F-35. Take the EODAS for example, while the AAR-57 does provide MAWS functions, it’s missing a whole host of functions that the F-35 has like “see through the plane”, track every WVR target, nigh vision aide, etc. Another is the comparison of ASQ-239 with EPAWSS/DEWS. Teh F-35 has single-ship GEO-location when the Growler does te even have that(maybe soon).
Don’t even get me started on data fusion.
Comparing the F-15E+’s avionics to the F-35s is like saying the iron sights on a rifle are just as good as a scope. One may get the job done but the other simply dominates.
If it was “clear” that they needed “new” F-15s then they would have had a proper RFI/RFP process instead of a mandate from OUTSIDE of the USAF.
Some in the USAF may be saying it now, after they were taken behind the woodshed, but that is not what they were saying 6 months ago. :stupid:
“Why not” because it’s more expensive and you don’t buy a fighter and then come up with a mission, you define the mission and then buy the aircraft.
The “mission” is to replace CONUS ANG F-15Cs that will never need to haul a hypersonic missile, never carry more than 4 AMRAAMs, never go above mach 1.2 in combat, etc.
Stop trying to excuse what is so obviously a Corporate Welfare buy that the USAF has repeatedly said that they do not have a mission for and do not want.
Despite what members of the Gripen/Rafale fanboi club tell you, EW does not reduce the RCS of the fighter.
A jammer only works in proportion to its ability to detect and mimic the adversary’s radar signal.
For instance, the radar of an F-4 should be relatively easy to jam with an 80’s 4th gen jammer but that same jammer would have extreme difficulty even identifying a modern AESA signal let alone the LPI versions found on the F-22/35.
Each FMS deal is relatively unique and unless it’s broken down, you will not get a true picture of the costs. In the above example it is obvious that it includes a lot more than the Super Hornet itself. Some FMS deals include these costs up front and others include them in followup weapons, parts, and support deals.
For the love of God.. check your National Interest articles because they re-post a lot of old news as if it’s current.
Better yet, stop post National Interest “news”.
Just so you are aware, “lightning” issues for the F-35 were solved a LONG time ago.
SAAB seem to have a habit of doing what they said they were going to do or better, don’t they?
Only if you ignore them moving the goalposts :stupid:
They were in the Dec2018 Red Flag..

What I was trying to say is that NGJ pods serve the same function as the ALQ-99s in that they are the transmitters (pointy end) of the jamming system on the Growler.
You are correct that they are currently not scheduled for F-35 integration.
GaNs will come to the F-35 in a Tech Refresh if and when there is shown to be a substantial benefit to doing so and that the cost difference will not bee too great.
They are AESA versions of the existing ALQ-99 pods on the Growler. They are not self-contained and need an onboard system that will manage them.
