In fact, I would love to see a comparison between the F-35Cs bring back weight and the Rafale M’s bring back weight. They aren’t designed for the same mission, but I ask it out of curiosity. I doubt the true numbers are available, atm.
The F-35C’s Shipboard bringback is ~10k lbs of ordinance out of it’s total load of ~18k lbs.

Both of which the F-35 has in spades.
Gross errors:
1. Supercruise – no data has been released about the F-35’s ability in this area. What speed can the SU-35 SupCruise at?
2. High Agility Supersonic/Subsonic – All interviews praise it’s agility, especially in the subsonic range.
3. TVC – You don’t need it if your weapons and situational awareness is good enough.
4. AESA array – gives the Russian radars higher ranks even thought they have never flown on production aircraft.
5. Side looking arrays – Again, gives Russian an advantage even though there is no evedence they exist, especially for the SU-35
6. Supersonic Weapons Delivery – faults the F-35 even though there is no evidence that it cannot deliver.
7. High Combat Ceiling – no hard data on the F-35 exists, so to fault it is bogus.
8. High Specific Excess Power – What does this mean???
Late model AIM-120s have good HOBS capability, though the NEZ goes down considerably.
If you use LOAL and third party targeting, then it’s easy to cue the AAM.
The -120D should be ready prior to the first F-35 entering service(they’re supposed to reach IOC in 2010).
Correct, but we were speaking about “self-designated” HOBS shots, not datalink shots.
As to the smaller NEZ, the target in a WVR shot is closer than a BVR shot so the reduction is irreverent.
btw, ATK is developing the next version of the AMRAAM rocket motor that looks to include a dual-pulse motor, ie the motor will restart when the AMRAAM is near the target to ensure endgame maneuverability.

Your PAL did and it is am important point, you may chose to ignore it, it says cleary that the AIM-120 C7 wouldn’t probably give the 180* coverage and there are some very good reasons for it.
You might want to try reading 384… as I did post it, not my “PAL”.
If you are speaking about #385 by “Peter G.” re the 180, he is speaking of the C5, not C7. And we are talking about the 120D, not the C5 or C7.

That was from a DoD panel that is designed to provide a “worst case scenario” on the F-35 production.
Well, since you are the one claiming that the AIM-120D is not a “true” HOBS, as opposed to the 9X…. please provide the G-rating, turning radius, motor burn time, and motor impulse rating of the 120D and 9X.
If you cannot, then you are making assumptions on it’s ability to do HOBS. And I repeat, I have no doubt that there are more agile HOBS AAMs out there, but that does not take away the fact that the AIM-120D can do the HOBS engagements.

And as far as “vaunted 360°”.. that is for the 120D also.. not the C5.
