UAVs also require a constant comms link. Jam that and it ceases to function effectively other than being a pre-programmed cruise missile.

Even that was not a complete loss and was on the ground.

Any attempt to compare evaluations of a Fighter vs a Car (and who to trust) are irrelevant since while a reputable magazine/website can gain 1st hand access to a car in order to do their own test-drive, that will never happen in a fighter, especially a single-seat fighter.

It has nothing to do with experience and everything to do with the fact that only one of those (ie people tied to the project like the test pilot, Op pilot, Ground Crew, programmers, builders, members of Congress & their aides, etc) are going to have access to any real, unfiltered data.

Proven means prevailed against contemporary adversaries

Funny how the F-22 has NOT done that yet NOBODY doubts its capabilities.

the F-35 has not yet proven anything

Red Flag, Nothern Lightning, etc all disagree with you.

Answer me this, has the F-22 proven itself & how?

    ex-co designer

When will people stop repeating this kind of BS?

Sprey had nothing to do with the design of the F-16 and A-10, that was all MD & Fairchild. All that the “Fighter Mafia” did was push the concept of a LWF and had nothing to do with its design.

I think that those are “dummy” missiles (not the lack of a motor nozzle).

Anything that you can do with the Eurofighter or F-35, you can do with the F-16.

In the end, the F-16 is substantially cheaper to operate, in an apples-to-apples comparison, than the Eurofighter.

I guess it all depends on what you consider “Typhoon’s per-hour operating cost”.

Since the F-16 shares the same family of engines as the F-15, the economy of scale benefits grow even larger.

Nope, I would say the same if they tried to compare ii to any other single engined fighter will thousands in service.

RAF Typhoons will cost as much as an F16 to operate!

To be polite, that is an utterly unrealistic goal for three main reasons.

    1. The Eurofighter burns fuel at a higher rate than the F-16.

    2. The Eurofighter has 2 engines vs 1 on the F-16 which means double the engine related maintenance.

    3. Economies of scale. There are simply way more F-16s flying which means that the equivalent part on the F-16 will cost a lot less than on the Eurofighter.

They only way that then can “hope” to achieve this is to drastically cut flight hours and stretch maintenance intervals to near unsafe levels. In any case, it will not be an “equivalent” level of capability and support when compared to the F-16.
