Maybe I should just point out that I am on over the fence spotter/photographer and only paid for Saturday’s ticket, I’m certainly not made of money, but I am lucky that I know a guy who lives 2 minutes walk from the threshold who lets me stay there for a few days each year.

On Monday seeing a pairs take off by two Euro fighter Typhoons was a new one to me, how ever I think as RIAT’s roll by were all going to see a lot of those. But the stars of the show for me outside of the 100 years static park (which was the best bit) have to be:

2x French Navy Dasault Rafale’s in the static park (Brutal looking machines).
The French Navy E2c Hawkeye also in the static park.
And finally the Mirage IVP, again in the static.

I know I know it’s a bit French overall, but Hey you asked!!

Did anyone see the F15E’s depart on Monday?? That climb rate is awesome for an aircraft of its age and it always leaves me standing with my jaw wide open when I see it.

By the way I took some photos of your 747 departing Fairford but was to engrossed in the static when it arrived. Will post pics when they come back. I do Digital in on the ground but am still in the dark ages when it comes to distance shots.

One day just isn’t enough, if you can handle it you need to go to RIAT for a few days, this year I spent Thursday and Friday watching the flying and Saturday just walking around the static park. Sunday I had work commitments then back to Fairford Monday for the departures, which I still think is one off the most entertaining lazy days watching aircraft you can get.

If you think the show is a bit dull with Tornadoes and F16’s wait until every airforce has F35’s, I can see it now, rows and rows of them:(

    Philo,

I am married, but to a very understanding and tolerant wife!
To be honest I sometimes think she’s glad to get me out of the house:D
But this will probably be my last year of acting like a spoilt kid at air shows as she’s now pregnant and expecting twins!

To all those going to Faiford this weekend, Have a good one.

I stand corrected! Thanks for that Damien at least seeing the rehearsals on Friday will allow me a slower paced walk in the static on Saturday, but Monday has always been my favorite day, by far the busiest.:)

You wont be dissapointed, I’ve been on every friday and monday since 93 and have no complaints to make yet! Friday is mainly fighters arrival day so if you like the small, noisy and fast stuff you’ll enjoy it.

    🙂 🙂 🙂

    Worst Airshow (No such thing)

Its interesting hearing the same complaints about weather and traffic etc… but you could always do what I do and set off very early for the show or if a long distance is involved go the day before. Fairford is only an hours drive from my house but I shall still be there from 7:00am on Friday morning followed by stopping locally overnight and then you’ll normally find I’m out side the gate by 6:00am the next morning, last yeah I was lent against the gate watching the firemen try to cut the lock off, by the time they had succeeded the queue had stretched out off sight! also, I never leave until after dark, at last years Waddington I over did it and managed to get myself and my car locked in the base, the police weren’t to happy so I’ve learnt my lesson from that one. My point is if you by your tickets in advance, make a full day or days of it even if its raining then you can have very little reason to complain and you get extreme value for money, e.g. Waddington two weeks ago: 11 quid in advance vs. 7:30 in the morning on the base time until 8 in the evening leaving time = approx 90p per hour. What a bargain, 90 pence an hour to watch planes, walk around the static, talk to aircrew, check out the stalls and of course take photos, granted the barriers and cones can be a pain but a suitable mini zoom like my 28-75mm can over come this and with my digital photos I just crop out the annoying bits and resize them. Job done!

Why sit in traffic complaining when you can be enjoying your passion? after all you’ve paid for it.

    Rant over

    Regards Plazz
