A very rare piece, Andy have you emailed the seller and invited him to Shoreham? He clearly has a deep historical knowledge of the period. By the way finally posted you a check. 🙂
Thanks can you expand on that?

Thanks Paul will pass on the info , a quick google says they were sent over to GB on lend lease and used among other things used for ferrying pilots to pick up new aircraft. I think they used mainly liberators at Dunkerswell but I expect there were a host of other aircraft types there, Upottery and Culmhead RAF Fighter base are within a few miles of Dukerswell.

That was cheap I would think they would have made allot more on ebay.

I am generally against hanging aircraft but at least its kept the Spit with its original paint. To repaint her would be vandalism. Not too many aircraft left with their original WW2 paint.
Totally agree it should be left in its original finish a re paint would destroy its originality, there are plenty of Spitfires with glossy paint to look at.
Its very nice provenance or not.
It was no accident that Mr B had his aircraft made from fibreglass as our radar failed to locate it we have now stepped up our defenses with PSM;s plastic seeking misiles they can also detect the smell of a pasty from over 20 miles ! I have IFF fitted to my Spitfire so its not its not subject to friendly fire. 😮
Acording to the SBC (Somerset border Control) , Baz or Mr B alias Mr Big has been using his Spitfire to smuggle Cornishmen and Pasties into Somerset and the home county’s at £500 per head for some time. I was aware of these activities but was happy to turn a blind eye as he always paid the cider tax when travelling through Somerset, it seems he may now be sneaking through without paying this tax and we are setting up AA batteries along the border to protect our airspace. If you see this Spitfire in Somerset please report it imeadiately to the SBC. :diablo:
Looks like he sneaked through early in the morning before the toll booths were manned, don’t worry I know where he lives !!:diablo:
Paul you were not joking about that downlaod its massive took ages!
Andy, I dont know if its an officer it was the only name i could find with those initials.
Yes the 1940 date would be related to the date it was made at least that applies to aircraft parts. Paulm, I got the name from the B of B honour roll as I did not know where else to look.
How do I check the air 78 records? is it online
Thanks
Graham
