Here is the trailer for the wings laid flat Mr Mitchell must have known the regulations for trailers when designing the Spitfire;) The trailer is the max legal width of 2.55m, Spit wings are 2.53 and widest point. This cannot be towed legally by a car, it has to be over 3.5 tons. Just have to put a bed on, will add surports to hold them on the trailer once they are in place.:)

Here is the trailer with the wings loaded just need to add side lights and new tyres and its ready to roll. Is anyone going to Chelmsford next weekend, if so be sure to say hello:)

You do not want to be throwing any stuff on like from “B and Q” tems, it has the grit on that will be hard and in all probability will damage the skins when walked on.

Piper do a walkway that extends the with of a Cherokee wing width, it is the 3M self adhesive sheet in black. Piper UK might help there.

others are try http://www.adamsaviation.com/ as they do it too in tolls, but make sure you get the adhesive stuff, I have a sheet on none adhesive lying around at work and it is think.

You could also try 3M as they will sell it to you, but its as a lot of things in life is not cheap. This is the type of suff, but is probably far to narrow for your needs. ask them!

Thanks for the links , your not joking thats really expensive wonder why everything is in 18.3m rolls???

Is LAS not just down the road from you at Oakhampton EX20 iUA?

Should have asked where you bought your paint from and is the Spitfire Gloss or Mattt?

Got my paint from the local paint supplier all Matt I have the codes if you need them.

    How about from B&Q
International Anti-Slip Floor Paint 5048343 Sandstone Effect 2.5l
    EAN: 5010988784361
    Only £25.98
    Then paint it black

BUT the LAS paint is perhaps better as that’s what it designed to be
Wing Walk Compound Black – X1567
    Textured Paint
This textured paint is ideal for the replacement of wing walk tapes. Also ideal in plant walkway, stairs and metal boat floors
    Price: £26.99

    Thanks Robert

Seems a good practical solution and easy to get, If i cannot get the stick on stuff suggested by next Thursday will take a trip to B&Q

I think resin might be a bit brittle and will crack and craze, you need something a bit more flexible like PVA but stronger

Yes i think you are right, even a thin layer would probably crack the moment someone steps on it.

You do ask the most searching of questions, don’t you?

When the chap showed me, I didn’t think to ask what glue he’d used; you could try water proof PVA on a spare piece of metal, as a test piece.

LOL should have been a lawyer :diablo: having thought about it I might try fibreglass resin then sprinkle on the grit.

Thanks all. In my ignorance i thought it was some kind of sand paper glued on. I am really pushed for time so glueing and sand blast sand sounds good as i have the materials, what sort of glue should I use?

    Thanks

    Grip finished

Recieved the grip today that my Friend in the Isle of Man made for me, he made the button castings from scratch, it functions exactly like the original, I was blown away when i got it, I wished i saved some pictures of the rough castings i sent him, cant wait to fit it.:)
