Hi Graham, Can I ask how you came about your replica Spitfire? Was it a ‘DIY’ kit? And how much did it all cost? Its looking real nice! 😀 Chris

    Hello Chris

I found it in a field near Somerton in Somerset belonged to a chap who moved down from London, I paid £4500 for it which was every penny we had saved at the time, nearly caused a divorce 😮 Luckily or not I hired it to a film company making Pearl harbour where she appeared as RF-M, they paid me £3500 for the job but she came back in a terrible state. Since then she appeared at RAF Benson for their official dinner when the RH 101 was delivered, didnt charge for that one as it was the RAF. Got to have dinner and Breakfast in the officers mess though that was a real experiance, she was painted in PRU colours for that one and lastly appeared at Wales Remembers in Cardiff and yet another paint job. Since them i have spent a small fortune fitting the engine and fitting out the cockpit.
GB Replicas make them, we act as their agents and i can get you a very good price if you PM me. Although you are looking at around 20K for a bog standard sit on the lawn and look pretty model, if you want to start moving it you have to carry out MODs.
All being well she will be completed by the end of next week and I’ll run her up cant wait very excited;).

    Grey and Green on

Have appplied the Grey and Green next is light grey on the belly, have decided to go with one of Johnie Johnsons MK IX. Went off the idea of the Grey Goose scheme mainly becuase i wanted a British Spit and could not find a suitable MK VIII to copy. Please ignore the roundel this is yet to re-done.

Don’t try any fast taxis with it, Graham :diablo:

No worries there could land a Lancaster on these legs now, might be a bit bumpy though no shocks.

Would’nt it be quicker & easier to fit a pair of folding wings, put some gearing on the main gun with a folding blade prop, I saw a caterpiller landing arrangement some years ago – so thats been done ……… maybe not?…. but that nice gentleman Mr H. Robinson seemed so positive.

    Cheers Brian.

Hello Brian did consider folding wings but they were just to difficult to achieve and would need to fold in two places due to height restrictions. It would have been difficult to get a decent fit where they were cut once folded down, fibreglass tends to warp. They would also act like giant sails to cross winds. They will be slung onto the lorry either side of the main body thin end first, We have modified them so they can be fitted in 20 mins tops with a Hiab.

Finally nearing the end cowlings refitted they fitted allot better than hoped with no ajustments needed. First coat of primer showed up some areas that need more sanding, should have some colour on by the end of next week.:)

We are looking to have a Gipsy Queen engine running on a stand at an open day we are organising later this year at the Comet restoration project at Derby Airfield and we need a propeller for it. Does anyone have or know of a suitable 2 blade propeller that might be available. We have one propeller already for the project but its new and we want to save it for when the Comet is complete.

the condition isnt too important as it can be cut down if the tips are damaged.

Thanks. We will be posting details of the open days later.

    More progress

The rocker button and casing has been made from scratch without a pattern so i think its a pretty good job all things considered. The rest of the button is original and is functional.

The cost of litigation goes both ways it will cost the person bringing the action just as much if not more as the person being sued. Anyone taking legal action must be 100% sure of their case or have plenty of cash that they can risk. I do not think the threat of legal action is a good enough reason to back down, if you make a public post on this forum or anywhere else you must be sure of your facts, if you are then stick to your guns and no harm can come to you.
This thread has been complicated by other concerns about other artifacts. The case seems simple to me can the ebay sellers identity who sold the ME 109 part be confirmed? if so and it turns out to be the same person who purchased it as DO17 then its case closed.

Having been on a few digs I feel privileged to do so. It’s my understanding that a license is only issued if the remains were recovered at the time of the incident. To say you should never recover these aircraft which are in simple terms inanimate pieces of metal is a bit like saying that the police should not clear up after a fatal RTC. If a recovered piece is sold, every time the owner looks at it he will remember the aircrew, that’s better than the artefact left to rot forgotten in the ground. To suggest aircraft are recovered for profit is complete nonsense in my experience. As I understand it pieces related to this thread may have come from Russia or other countries, to have a simplistic view that all recoveries can or should be stopped and would prevent fraud is frankly laughable.
If the comments in this thread are wrong then the seller should challenge the points raised.
I personally have made mistakes in the past but did not hesitate to challenge any suggestions of deliberate dishonesty therefore I think the seller mentioned should do the same, if there is an honest explanation lets hear it.

Picture 2 is an armoured sliding side window, all the rest are armoured front windscreen window frames.

    Thankyou very much for that.:)
