Me too!!! Would have been mid-seventies too. My Dad used to take me to the Southend Historic Aircraft Museum every Sunday morning but he woke me up early and said ‘we’re going somewhere else today.’ I threw a bit of a tantrum until he told me where it was!
To sell it on, he needs a petroleum licence from his Local Authority and there are a million and one legislative hoops to jump through…
A Buzz Lightyear ruler…’To infinity and beyond!’
(Gets coat…)
Thanks Steve…I look forward to it…
Don’t keep us in suspense fellas……has the collection been located?:D
Thanks for that Expressflight…fascinating stuff…I can almost hear the roar of the Centauri in reverse pitch!!! Someone must have some pictures…
Just bumping this one up again
Does anyone have any details on Smith, Lane and Parkins?
A swept vee-tail…that would look good….
Lovely pictures but, I have to confess, I always thought they got the back end of the Comet completely wrong. The graceful nose, the beautiful curves of the intakes and the sweep of the wings and that awful ‘Meccano’ tail and tailplane!

I saw the CASA at North Weald in 2003 having had a fair bit of restoration work (presumably to static?) done. There’s a couple of pics back on page 4 of this thread. Any idea who the work was being done for and what the planes for the airframe were then?
Came across this on airliners.net of the CASA ‘arriving’ at the museum by crane

…and this one of the last few seconds of the Beverly’s final flight..

The Science Museum example is G-APWY, formerly operated by Marconi. It last flew (to Wroughton from Southend when the museum closed) in 1983.
Old Fart, which book are those scans taken from?
WJ244 I have a vague recollection of the Zero 6 liveried bus in a very ’70’s’ white and purple colour scheme. I think the Triplane is at the Manchester Museum of Science and Technology now, where abouts at Coventry is the Bleriot?
Mods Can we merge this thread with the 1980’s Southend one please?
Point of order, Old Fart – I’m sure the Thunderstreak was behind the CASA! (at least from 1975ish onwards)
