    Phixer,
Very flawed info you put forward in your post. How many of the terrorists onboard the aircraft has Bin Laden/Al Q named and shown videos of? IIRC it is has now been 6. Explain the airport security footage of the terrorists going through the boarding gates/security? Explain the airline and security people statements and accounts who actually processed and checked them on board? No doubt you also believe that Bin Laden and his number two are actually living in the U.S. and under the control of the U.S. Government?

Lt. Col. Steve O’Brien was the commander of the C-130 that was tasked with an attempt to get a visual on the Flight 77 757. No doubt you believe that he is all part of the big ‘cover-up’ to?

I’m not a Canon user, but have you tried shooting using shutter priority? For jets try the fastest speed that your lens will allow. Camera shake may have also played a part in the blurred shot. The only other advice is to stake out your local airport and practice using all the various settings.

Although, no doubt you will receive some excellent replies I would suggest a forum such as

Does anybody have tips for taking a bulk of camera gear to the USA?

I’m going to the Mustangs and Legends airshow and plan to take my SLR plus two lenses including the big 100-400mm Canon lens. I am a bit hesitant to put the big lens into my suitcase and have it thrown about by the luggage handlers. But at the same time I am worried I might get trouble taking it onboard. With all the terrorist fears of recent years and all I don’t know if they’ll let me carry three pounds of steel in my hand luggage. I don’t want to be facing a “lose your lens or lose your flight” dilemma at the hand luggage check…

    Any advice?

NB. I’ll be travelling with a Canadian airline. Not sure if they’re less “paranoid” than their US counterparts?

I think the best bet would be to contact the airline directly. Contact them at the airports you will be travelling to/from and get the info first hand. Surely they have a website with frequently asked questions as to hand luggage?

Some good photos there, thanks forsharing.

Do you know how long the Swedish Gripens and Norwegian F-16s are staying for??

    Richard

Thanks! I believe that they should have left sometime today. I know that the two Norwegian F-16 went into Mildenhall late on Thursday after their late afternoon sortie from Lakenheath.

    A few F-15s.

Unlikey to be Smirnoff, there’s much better rocket fuel over there, unless he’s taken a liking to ‘that’ advert.
I agree to a certain extent with what you say, but did these flights not cease for a period and is this not linked with Comrad Putins so called new ‘CCCP’ policy.
I think they’re just sussing out the Typhoon as an export rival, quite right to, perhaps they should send up some BBMF Spitties instead and really cause confusion, MkXIX’s would keep up with a Bear wouldn’t they.
As you say, a wonderful a/c which I was priviledged to see at Fairford some years ago, there must be loads of redundant models that the Russians would be prepared to pass on.
How about a Soviet Heroes museum next to the American Airforce Museum at Duxford, that could be interesting.
I remember at Fairford, the USAF made a point of parking a B-1 next to the
Tupelov, and put their best glam uniforms and sunglasses on, the Russians looked very dowdy, set up a paste table full of badges and were doing deals for trips round the aircraft, felt very sorry for them, but that was then and this is now, or has nothing changed.

Not a chance with a Spit. The Tu-95MS is exceptionally fast. A Spit wouldn’t get near it. The MS would have the edge in excess of 100mph.

To my understanding the first QRA contact is a warning, A sort of ‘we know you are here and we are watching you’ and if an escalation happens there is a second QRA ‘loaded for bear’ (pardon the pun).

I was surprised when i heard this but it has been an un-offical thing since the cold war and the only defences the BEAR has is the tail gun (and some do not have them anymore) so it cannot be that much of a threat.

Except if the BEAR has any internal armaments but they are for offense (torpedo’s etc) not defense, but the BEAR is very rugged and there has been some contacts in the past with QRA aircraft and the aircraft has just plodded on and landed safely.

Be intersting to see if the RAF arms the QRA if they are going to use BlackJacks as i said in my first post as they are faster and nuclear capable*

    curlyboy

*The BEAR is nuclear capable but the weapons it can carry are mostly for anti shipping and you could tell if it had a nuclear missile as it would have to be carried externally.

Where did you get the impression that the QRA are unarmed? All the QRA aircraft are live armed. Those F.2s shown in the images last week are armed with ASRAAM and AMRAAM. QRA never went away as some people seem to think.

The last UK intercept of Blackjacks was during Feb 2001. Two Blackjacks flew down the east coast of the UK. No nice piccies as they were intercepted by F.3s in the early morning in the pitch black.

This may be about to change. Several Tornados are training for close air support missions on the Suffield range in Alberta, Canada. Strangely, they are based out of Calgary International and not Cold Lake, not that I’m complaining.

RAF Tornados train for this role day in and day out. That is the role they fulfil over Iraq at present.

If they cross into the airspace they should be forced to land like Russia would do. That would put an end to it!

The can legally fly right up to 12nm from the UK.

I thought the Bears Putin sent over were reconnaissance aircraft, if not surely between eight Typhoons they can carry enough missiles to down 20 Bears between them?

The Bear Hs are ALCM carriers. As part of Russian strategic nuclear assets they are exercising their crews. Think B-52Hs operating in the stand-off ALCM role.

Great work, Ken! Well done! I like that grey scheme on the Tu-95MS. I wonder if it will be applied to the whole fleet?

Great, I’ll have to get a copy. I used to serve with Chris in the Royal Observer Corps during the early 1980s. Chris was a true expert at aircraft recogniton. During 1989 he witnessed something that even he couldn’t instantly recognise!

There are some Mig’s in there too boys and girls:D .

At 6m10s there is a low afterburner pass and I swear he is lower than the roofline on the shed in the field:eek: 😮 .

    John.

No MiGs in there. The ‘MiG’ is a Sukhoi. Looks like a Polish Air Force Fitter K (Su-22)

Most of the really low-level F-4 footage in that video is from the Falklands. Great stuff! I remember standing on the flight deck of a C-130K (I was a passenger) as we beat up one of the outlying settlements. The Falkland Islanders loved it and would do a radio broadcast for a repeat.
