Just Google ‘Cessna Bird Dog’ and you should get some info and pics.
The port side of the Bird Dog is decorated with FAC (Forward Air Control) mission marks. I don’t believe the aircraft is an actual warbird. I think it is just painted up to represent a South Vietnamese Bird Dog. Basically in Vietnam the rockets on the Bird Dog were used to mark targets for fighter-bombers. The FACs would stay in the area of combat and report on the resulting battle damage etc. Very brave pilots/crews indeed. The VC and NVA put great efforts into downing the various FAC aircraft.
Brilliant shots there gary. Like Mr T Spitfire shots and the Sea Hurricane. Whats that Aircraft done up in USAF colours with rockets, Pictures 5/6?
James
Not USAF. Those are South Vietnamese markings on a Cessna Bird Dog.
Thanks for the reply. Also thanks to all the staff and volunteers for a great show.
I agree. Try what is known as the Tank Bank up next to the Land Warfare Hall. If it is a big show then get there early. The incline is high enough, but you can also use a small ladder. I used a small step ladder for the first time up there this year. It really give you a great vantage point.
Get there early and stake out your spot with a chair. People move chairs. I know this from experience. Always take a couple of cable ties/tie-wraps.
Lovely work Franck. You should have started a new thread for those. They are in a class of their own!
Nice work Gary. Did the Hind clip the tops of the trees as it came into land after it’s display? I was up at the other end at the time, but it did seem to clip the tops. Was this just the downdraught? Anyone confirm?

Phil, Nice work.
Great images, Si. Please post more!
There was plans to put some of the PR.9 kit into some of the Nimrod MR.2 airframes. The plan was eventually shelved.
You can ask for a manned Global Hawk or a surplus TR-1.
All that in times, when you can get nearly real-time pictures via satellite-link from a Global Hawk at all. That will be “fearless” and can be send everywhere, with-out crew limitations.
No more TR-1s. They were redesignated U-2Rs. The R’s were upgraded to S’s.
Nice shot. Sadly NX611’s tail-up taxy run, scheduled for tomorrow at East Kirkby, has been cancelled. This is due to the wet weather this week and scheduled wind strength/direction problems. They still plan to do a normal taxy run (possibly two). It’s a real shame as I would loved to have seen NX611 do a tail-up run.
Richard, great images. Thanks for sharing! I love that C-17 take-off. The Shawnee shot is great. It is an amazing shape. Well captured!
