There were ex-Vietnamese F-5s in both Poland and Czechoslovakia, supplied to enable the aircraft industry in those countries to examine Western aircraft construction and technology. there is no doubt that other US aircraft were examined, but little evidence (so far) that many, if any were test flown in Russia.
There are some ‘dodgy’ photos on the web showing, amongst other things, a Vampire in Soviet markings (alleged ex-Iraqi) and of course the fabled Russian Tomcats (allegedly supplied by Iran).
The shapes seen at a Russian air base were convincing mock-ups
There used to be on the web an image of an F-5E in VVS markings under test in the Soviet Union. It is possible it was one of the F-5s evaluated before being passed onto either the Poles or Czechs?
I presume that means Bentley Priorys day are numbered too……

The Royal Air Force is due to vacate Bentley Priory by 2008.
Seems odd to me to ship a Thud from the Boneyard and then let it sit in bits. WHat was it? another F? Must be coz it is a single seater I think… must look at the vid again.
The F-105 at Duxford is a D.
The only Thud I ever saw in the UK was the BDRU example at Upper Heyford. Dunno if that’s the same one at Duxford or if not what happened to it. I have a pic of it somewhere – the dingbats posed it next to the funfair which made getting a good pic impossible. I love that plane and yonks ago was privileged to chat to a USAF Wild Weasel pilot when I was on a US trip. Bravest of the brave!
That airframe is now at RAF Croughton. The one at Duxford was sent over from the U.S.

That Thud always bugs me because I would love to see it complete, IIRC it would be the only one in the UK, but the cost I fear will prevent this from happening for a very long time.
John.
An F-105 is a gate guardian at RAF Croughton.
Thanks Jagrigger, 5 feet is a decent slice to take off especially at low level. Anyone else with info or leads?
Paul
Have you tried the mil aircrew forum at pprune?
Sorry TEEJ, but I’ve got an error 404 for all posted links … it does not work.
The links worked back in Feb.
If you go to the following you can download the images.
Hi Nonpilot, it would help if you give us the exact coordinates to the picture, and the height at which you got the screenshot. I´m no Google Earth expert, but that thing must be darn big to show that much detail on Google Earth (i.e., an Exocet or Harpoon would be hardly recognizable given the resolution of image Google has).
So, where exactly is that thing?
King Jester
You’ll find it here. Looks like a large target drone on launcher.

The BBC reports that there were two of them, Bear-Fs

Interesting badge on the nose, pity the tail is cut off on the photo though. It also appears to have a name which makes me wonder if it is from Engels AFB, east of Moscow.
Not from Engels. The Bear-Fs are Navy and would be part of the Northern Fleet. Probably flew out of Kipelovo. There is no coverage of the base on Google Earth.

The backseater in “Y” was one of the last erks of 6 that will get a trip. He took up my camcorder and got some stunning video!! 😉 He loves the picture!!
Great! Some others from that approach.

Thanks Doug. Some more from today at Coningsby.

Some images I took at Coningsby last week.

OK – I’ll let you get away with putting my beloved Pussy Cat in historic as long as you add the rider ‘RAF or French Air Force’ – come on, the Indians are still making them!
Ah well, at least we outlasted the F14……;)
Nope. The F-14 is still flying with the Iranians.
Considering the size of that thing I thought they would be able to do better than 25km. Still it is good to see Brazil pushing forward with such projects.
I wonder if Brazil examined and tested the impounded AGM-45 Shrike from the Vulcan?
