What makes you think that there is lack of spares for Mig-29s ? For a fleet of 80+ I would think Iran has plenty of spares in warehouse. Also, why wouldn’t Russia help them maintain these on regular basis, including some upgrades?
I still think even 50 battle ready Mig-29As can seriously hurt air attack plans.
cheers
What makes you think that Iran has 80+ MiG-29s in service? Iran certainly doesn’t have a large number of MiG-29s.
Do a search for ‘Exotic Fulcrums’
Also see in regards to MiG-29 serials

Chinese J10s? Where did you read that, it’s the first I’ve heard of it! ๐ฎ
They don’t. It was a series of stories that emerged several years ago. This included S-300s up and operational, Tu-22M Backfires and J-10s. This even included the infamous Tu-22M photoshop in IRIAF markings. The likes of Iran Defence forum were busy promoting the stories and many still believe that Iran has them in service.
2007 saw the J-10 story re-surface.

‘Iran buys Israeli fighter jets Iran has signed a contract with China for the delivery of two squadrons of J-10 fighter planes. The design was developed by Israel for its Air Force and then sold to Beijing. Engines for the jets will be supplied by Russia.’

‘The Xinhua press agency interrupted its coverage of the Communist Party of Chinaโs 17th National Congress to run a story denying the Novosti report. โThe report is false and irresponsible,โ Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told a regular press conference. โChina has not conducted any negotiation on so-called fighter issue.โ

I take it that the PLAN will field a Naval Model of the Flanker in the interm. To be followed by a 5th (4th) Generation Fighter. I wonder how the latter is progressing. Especially, considering how China surprised many with the recent release of pics of the J-20!

It appears to me that this will be a Guard’s asset and not part of the regular forces. For recon, I suppose but the exposed seating for two?
No doubt in future exercise related footage we will see the second crew member fielding either an RPG or SAM? I can’t see the Iranians just using them as pure recon assets. It is the sort of madcap idea that I can see them using.

This is the original picture..
Thanks for that! ๐
TJ
um no.
it is a photoshopped pic. but NOT from that one. The original picture is exactly the same. F-22 with missing radome being towed, with two guys next to it. The background however is in the US. Cannot remember where I saw the original picture.
I see it differently. I remember seeing the H-6 and background from an old PRC image. The image was busted on the BBS forum. I don’t know how anyone can claim that image is of a ‘J-14’. It is clearly a Raptor manipulated in PS.
TJ
*
That is an F-22. It is simply an image taken from the Lockheed Martin Plant and inserted into an image with the H-6 in the background.
Check out the exact same towing tug. Also note the white area in front of intake and below the cockpit. In the following you can see some writing on it. Note the same in the fake image with the H-6?

okay then, so whats the assigned code name for FC-1, J-10, and J-20
It is a very long drawn out process. It took years for ASCC, now ASIC, to issue the last batch of codenames. It isn’t really a priority. When I served in the military ASCC/ASIC were meeting around every two years and then it would take until the next meeting in the following two years for any decisions to be made and agreed on. It isn’t really a priority. I wouldn’t expect the PAK-FA/T-50 to have been issued a codename, let alone this new Chinese prototype within this timescale. Things might have changed, but I wouldn’t put any bets on it!

Nicely done Teej;)
That’s exactly how I would expect it to look in RAF service.
Apologies. I meant to just post a link. I found it on the web.

Well technically the Hawk 200 was/is the last all-British fighter produced. ๐

Not ZH801, but ZH800. The serial was changed purely for the event.
