I would hope that the prosecution pathologist was not only struck off but tried for witholding evidence from a court of law.

I can’t pretend to be 100% sure, but I have the feeling that he was “allowed to retire”.

Perhaps someone else knows for sure?

Leads to a better, safer place. Mass murderers are not human, no matter WHAT excuse is trotted out.

So what happens to them to effect this change?

Does their DNA change magically?

Do they miraculously transmute into a different species?

What species do they become? Unicorns, perhaps?

Here’s a case for you to ponder over, Sky High.

If the death penalty had been in force in 1999, this woman would have almost certainly been hanged.

She was eventually released on a second appeal in 2003, after it emerged that the prosecutor’s pathologist had withheld vital microbiological reports that subsequently cast fatal doubt upon the prosecution case.

Sadly, she developed serious psychological problems during her period of incarceration and eventually drank herself to death in 2007.

As a result of her tragic case, the Attorney-General ordered a review of a large number of similar cases involving the same pathologist and two further women convicted of murdering their children also had their convictions overturned.

So, that’s three innocent human beings who would probably have been hanged.

Real people, with real families, who were victims of miscarriages of justice due to the actions of a pathologist.

Food for thought?

Just heard from my eldest girl over in NZ.

Thankfully, she was in Hamilton on North Island at the time of the tremor.

However, her partner’s family live in Christchurch itself and they’ve had no news of them at all.

These things happen all of the time, and have done since time immemorial.

Thanks to the technology available to the world’s news media nowadays, vivid images of natural disasters are brought straight into our living rooms often within hours – or even minutes – of the event occurring.

As a result, it seems as if they are happening more frequently.

BTW – we have a thread on the Christchurch earthquake already running.
