Nowadays it’s an ill-informed frothing-at-the-mouth nationalist bigot with an internet connection.
Speaking as a grandfather from the UK (with an internet connection), I invite you to reconsider your definition.

Its a good plane based on a proven technology developed at the right time and it will be successful in the long term.
No-one has said that it isn’t a sound evolution of a basic design that has proved itself time and again.
Some of us have, however, looked askance at the way in which it has been presented as some kind of revolutionary new design – and with good reason.
As to long-term success, it is unlikely to see sales on the scale of, say, the B747-400 as long-haul services are increasingly being operated by modern large twin jets.
Saw a post on A.net where one nutter thought the A380 would eventually replace all long haul aircraft!
Ah, there’s always one.
Who said the A380 was the answer to everything, Sandy?

Date Argentina invaded the Falklands Islands – April 2nd 1982
Date President Reagan declared US support for Britain – April 30th 1982

Some ” special relationship ”
I think you’re being a lilttle unfair, BumbleBee.
In the period between the two dates, Alexander Haig (US Secretary of State) quite literally ruined his already flagging health in flying back and forth between Buenos Aires and London in a desperate effort to produce a peaceful settlement between Argentina and the UK – both strategically important allies of the USA.
Once negotiations had broken down and armed conflict of some kind became inevitable, President Reagan openly aligned the USA with the UK.

The sight of a bunch of grapes still brings him out in a cold sweat for some unfathomable reason.

That’s nothing.
I know someone who, in their hour of direst need, grabbed a tube of Deep Heat in the dark thinking it was a tube of Germoloids.
They soon discovered the error of their ways, but by then it was much too late.
The noises he made still haunt me to this day….. 😮

You’re asking a man who’s just had a bath in Colgate Plax for an answer on a technical matter? 😀

Another clean-up!
The majority of users of this forum come here to have a sensible, informed adult discussion about topics concerning modern military aviation.
I see no reason why they – or anyone else – should have to wade through post after post of childish nationalistic squabbling in order to do so.
Enough is enough, so let me make the situation unambiguously clear.
Either the silly bickering stops, or the moderator team will take steps to ensure that the minority responsible for it are no longer in a position to spoil the enjoyment of the majority.
You know who you are, and you should consider yourselves to have been warned.
As always, my sincere apologies to the sensible majority for this intervention. Please continue your discussion.

Does anyone else think it’s ironic that we’ve not been swamped with messages from beyond the grave from Doris Stokes?
I met her once, you know.
She smiled and laughed cheerfully, so I gave her a slap around the ear.
One should always strike a happy medium.
