Do you have a source for this rise, given that the overall cost of public sector pensions is slowly but steadily falling according to the Hutton Report?

what you are not grasping is a lot of single mothers round these parts work for much less than 10,000 PA they are already on the breadline struggling to feed kids and keep them clothed……

Just another eaxample of greedy, “snout in the trough” politicians telling hard working people they can’t have a half decent pension. If I was entitled to a pension like that I would be doing all I could to preserve it.

Now, be fair!

MPs did everything they could to keep their own final salary pension scheme and severance payments intact – and guess what? It worked!

there are a lot of single young parents that won’t be putting food in thier kids mouths because they lost money staying away from menial paid jobs to look after thier kids through this !!

You can provide evidence of these unfed children, naturally.

ATR42, you’re living in a dream world if you think people will leave the cosyness of CS for PS, and there arn’t any high wages where I’m stood.

Nor are they any high wages where a large majority of civil servants are standing, I can assure you.

Like many people in both private and public sectors I haven’t seen a pay rise this year or last, and nor am I likely to see one for some considerable time to come.

But prices – especially the prices of essential services and utilities – continue to rise at well over the headline rate of inflation.

Also in common with many people working in both sectors, my workload has increased as colleagues have left and not been replaced.

But targets and deadlines have remained the same or even tightened.

Most civil servants earn nothing like the kind of salaries you always see quoted in the media – and the same is true of their pensions.

The “Sir Humphrey”s of this world enjoy very competitive salaries and favourable conditions. No argument there.

But they are small in number, and to project their situation onto the civil service as a whole simply isn’t valid.

You may as well pretend that the girl behind the counter in your local bank enjoys the same salary and pension package as the CEO.
