    It’s all good stuff, isn’t it? 🙂

We should welcome any and all growth at Regional Airports, IMHO.

Hey – I’m only telling you what’s in the CAA stats, guys. As I said, it came as a surprise to me.

Joe could be nearer the truth than he thinks so far as the MUFC strips are concerned, though. 😉

We had that in Manchester too, Ren. 😀

According to the CAA Statistics for June, Ringway handled around twice as much freight as PIK, EDI and GLA put together.

Which surprised me, I have to admit. 😮

They may be a “good airline”, but they don’t seem to be a very good business. 🙁

Wouldn’t Aberdeen be in Oslo’s catchment area? 😉

Can’t see it myself, to be honest. Too much competition at MAN, from bmiBaby, Hapag-Lloyd Express (and Air Berlin from November), and V-Bird.

Not to mention easyJet less than an hour down the M56.

As we all know, Ryanair are somewhat allergic to the “C” word. 😀

I think you’re just about on the money there, RIPConcorde. That’s certainly been the pattern at MAN, BHX and GLA.

It’s a strategy that has served Continental very well indeed up to now, so there’s no sense whatsoever in changing it for no good reason.

No, we’ve still got them and word is that they’re about to expand at MAN. 😉

I’m not interested in your clan warfare 😉 – I’m just pointing out that the catchment areas for the two services are very close and must inevitably overlap at some point. And they are.

Continental will advance carefully and slowly – their mission is to make as much money as they possibly can in the long term; not to parade aircraft before spotters or, indeed, to fuel local rivalries.

If and when they have hard evidence of long-term higher demand at Edinburgh I have no doubt at all they will expand. After all, this is exactly what happened at GLA.

But not before they can satisfy themselves that such demand exists, and the EDI service simply has not been running for long enough to provide that proof.

Uzbekistan Airways – they used to serve MAN but switched to BHX when the small matter of unpaid landing fees was raised with them. 😉

But would the extra 757 be available?

There’s the Bristol flight and (maybe) Newcastle too, remember. Liverpool as well, if rumours are to be believed.

I wouldn’t be holding my breath waiting for a 2nd daily EDI service, especially not with the GLA service just “down the road”.

I think what Sandy means is that Continental’s wide-bodies are already fully-committed to existing routes, so there’s no room for upgrading anywhere.

Thinking about it, he’s probably right.

I’m not sure they’ve got any on order at the moment and in the current climate within the US airline industry there’s not much chance of a new order for a while, either.

    It’s LN-RRX, Matthew.

    Well spotted!! 😉

The weather was absolutely glorious up here last week, A330. I got a nice tan. 😀

I just wonder whether it wouldn’t make more sense to combine both flights onto a larger aircraft – B767-400 or even a B777.

That would free up 2 B757s for new routes, like Bristol.
