The way the flypast had been hyped up in the press and on TV you would have expected something better than what was shown – cockpit coverage, the aircraft approaching the palace and then cutting to the balcony and the aircraft not seen again. Just for a few seconds they could have shown the planes as they flew over and away, but no. It was crap.
I agree, I was hoping to have had some shots of the BBMF trio from the ground and possibly of the Spitfire and Hurricane filmed from the Lanc but overall it was pants! Why did we need to see frequent shots of Jake Humphrey in the Lancaster?
As others have remarked, the event was the wedding and not the flypast.
Like it or not, we aviation enthusiasts are in a minority.
The majority would have seen extended detailed coverage of the flypast as an unwelcome distraction from the ‘main event’.
