Interesting thread this…
I have a question…what does the -66/-77 signify at the end of the part number for the nuts
ie AGS2007-A1-66 and then AG2007-A1-77 Anchor Nuts.
Thanks in anticipation
This seems to be a bit of a “British” problem.
Build a wing….only they dont fit!!!!
I believe its an important part of UK history.
The USAF has been based in the UK since 1942 in its various forms. The H-53 was based in the UK at Woodbridge, Alconbury and Mildenhall for a considerable length of time with USAFE as, has been pointed out, particulalry long range rescue missons over the North Atlantic.
The aircraft has been used operationally in the majority of conflicts that both the US and the UK have been involved.
Besides its a good looking piece of kit!
Saw them today driveing past on my way to Stansted. Look clean.

The program was interesting to a certain degree. I lost interest 3/4 way thru due to the commentary, but then its for “joe Six Pack!”
Lot of waffle, about 15 mins, about the removal of an engine. Jeez, theres an engine change almost daily somewhere in the industry.
As for the price of the undercarriage thats about right…probably high time and run thru to the end of its cycle limits etc. It would cost you a cool US$250,000 ish, probably more to put it thru a shop and get it back into service.
It costs about US$150,000 (£70000) to strip one down. Then the cost of sending all the bits to the repair shops for fixing so its not a cheap hobby.
Saying that there is a strong market for the -400 stuff so its a fairly good investment, if you have the time and cash to play with.
Just read Invasion 1940 by the same author. A very good book and gives an interesting insite into the period. WOuld recommend it.
My view on films (American, British etc) is, take them for what they are. Interesting insites into other peoples views of the world.
Technically if there wrong, then so be it. How many Hurricanes or perhaps with the Dambuster film, Lancasters are flying??
CGI – if it works go for it. Beats using expensive rare airframes.
Cant wait to read the Vulcan book…..
The fleet will most likely be sold, perhaps as one lump but more than likely as singletons to other operators. As will all the spares and stuff. Sales of these items is where the money will come from to pay off debtors, loans and the administrators.
Staff are at the end of a long line unfortunately. Very few staff will be retained by the administrators to oversee the break up but that will be for a few months only.
Been there – seen it – done it. The vultures will be circling!
An old aircraft for an old aircraft. Doh!
I to saw this programme and was amazed. Been to Berlin many times over the last 15 years or so and was never aware of the “bunkerage” there was.
Of course familiar with the obvious ones but was astounded at to what else is around.
Cant remember the number of times walked/driven up to the Brandenburg Gate. To find out that there was a massive U-Bahn and road tunnel underneath the Under den Linden and the Tiergarten was a bit shocking.
Berlin has changed considerably for the better (and worse). I hope that they can preserve what is left (not much now) and get over their perceived guilt and open these places up so people can actually see what went on under the Nazi Regime rather than bury it under the city.
