To be honest: in case of the Lightning (or take Buccaneer, TSR.2 and some other British designs) I sometimes doubt the overly and excessively positive remarks made towards it, especially on these forums.
Not to go off topic, but the only other user of the Buccaneer, the South African Air Force, were exceptionally impressed and happy with the Bucc under operational and general peacetime conditions. The SAAF desperately wanted more, and in fact originally ordered 32. These were embargoed. The Bucc broke numerous Southern African speed/distance records whilst being buddy-refueled by other Buccs. I think these records still stand.
The Lightning and TSR-2 I can’t speak for.
I was waiting for the Christmas Bullet. The project was a con trick and killed every single pilot who attempted to fly it. It is universally acknowledged as the worst aircraft ever….
William Christmas should have been brought up on manslaughter or murder charges.
Alas, it never made it into service, so cannot be considered. I was going to say the Bachem Natter, but that didn’t make it into service either….
It is quite interesting, that the Angolans with all their experience from the civil war opted for additional Su-22 instead of Su-25s.
I think the Su-22 was constantly underestimated as a strike jet.
I remember reading in an aviation book that when the Mig-27 was compared to the Su-22, the latter was often preferred due to it’s easier maintenance and exceptional toughness compared to the “comparitively fragile” Mig-27…
F-22’s capability would come from the fact that it routinely operates at 60,000 feet, so its missiles wouldn’t have to climb as far. On the other hand, since it lacks any EO or IR detection capability, it couldn’t track the SR passively and if it radiated, the SR would detect it and could take evasive action before coming in range, as well as deploy its DEFensive Electronics System.
According to those who flew the SR, they did not consider the MiG-31 a major threat
Aren’t all those points you’ve just mentioned actually in the Mig-31’s favour?
It has a high routine operational ceiling and has IR detection………
Your conutry sat on its hand and did nothing because Iraq owned it alot of money! :p
Can you provide some figures…?:p:p
Although what this statement has to do with independent media or Joe Bloggs in the streets ability to listen to Blix and Cheney/Powell/Rice/Bush/Bliar and make up their own mind is beyond me….unless you’re implying that everyone not in the “coalition of the willing” lives under a dictatorship with controlled media?
So, everything would have been just fine. The US would have not invaded Iraq. Saddam would still be in power and of course without the pressure for the US and its Allies. Saddam left alone wouldn’t start his WMD Programs all over again……Please, here again the Dictator is the good guy and the US is the corrupt Bad Guy. Your twist on History gets better with every turn!
Scooter, your premise was that he was believed to have WMD’s and that everybody believed that. When facts are presented by posters here that the majority did not believe this, as presented by Blix, you play the “good guy ridding us of the bad guy” card. Stop moving the goalposts. You should exhibit better arguing skills than that.
PS. On topic…. have you been to Russia or India? I have not. I’m just trying to get a feel for where you are coming from emotively due to your posts.:diablo:
let’s not forget that the vast majority of the world believed he did have WMD not just the US.
Utterley wrong. The majority of the world was either laughing or aghast at the “evidence” presented at the UN by the US. The vast majority of the people in my country for one certainly did not believe that he had WMD. We actually believed Hans Blix, as did the vast majority of people on this planet.
That is why the “coalition of the willing” numbered so few.
You hardly make a case………..While, you may disagree with the US and its your right. Instead of coming up with solutions within your own countries. You fight what you don’t understand by supporting the Russian View. Really, very sad…………I wonder if you would have supported the Axis Powers (i.e. Imperial Japan, Nazi, etc.) vs the Allied Nations during WWII had you lived during that period in History??? Personally, I am being to wonder…..of course the latter provided you with the rights you are expressing here! Funny, Russia wants to take those very rights from Georgia and is willing to do so with Military Might! Really, what do you stand for………
Scooter, Godwins Law applies here. Google it if you’re not sure. It basically means you’re running out of points, or cannot refute another poster argument.;)
I have noticed that you’ve hardly been India’s or Russia’s greatest friend over the years, so the topic was quite amusing, though predictable to begin with.:p
Nothing personal Scooter.:o:D
I just don’t agree that the majority of people care. Certainly in my country they don’t appear to. Unfortunately, certain precedents have been set since the Cold War.
Sorry to ask… but what Russian trainer lineage? In that class Warshaw pact had for decades Czech plane L-29 and L-39.
The Italians basically bought themselves into the Yak project at a time when Russia was bankrupt after the collapse of the USSR. The aircraft is a Yak design.
Obviously, the Italians then contributed in various ways once they were on board.
wow what a ****ty mod system you have here, cya guys i’m off to another forum where the mods don’t play pick and choose to what they remove, have fun. expects post to last .0125 seconds, 😀
Bye bye JonJames. You didn’t fool me one little bit…..
Anyway, I’m sure anyone would want this conflict to be over rapidly. The normal people going about their daily business are always the losers here. I hope for their and their families sake everything is now at an end…..

I won’t attempt to get into the politics of this situation, quite frankly I haven’t a clue who’s right or who’s wrong, my only comment is that the Russians wanted to wipe out the Muslims in Chechnia, but seem to want to protect them here?
Where on earth did you get that idea? That is an astonishing statement Pete…
If Russia had wanted that it would have been over long before it was.:(

Oh I do believe the Indians have their secrets with regard to the BARS – and that does play a part. But last year I had the opportunity to ask a few of the MKI pilots whether there was any truth to the radar effecting VOR and TACAN – and it seemed that was the reason it wasn’t used in any form during their exercise at RAF Waddington.
Thanks for the information.
