Moggy’s Rule 7
insert ” and airbags radios”.
Bit harsh that Charlie you cannot hear the tinkle of earbuds above the noise of rustling crisp bags camera shutters and women talking to someone three rows back who seems to be hard of hearing. 😀
Rule 11. Insert “crushing drink cans and crunching plastic water bottles.”
From my mobile which is not an iPhone. Just thought you would want to know that as Apple (wash my mouth out with soap and water) seem to think it’s important.
Hopefully to follow, a pictorial look around CAF external site and inside the repair hanger in which there was excellent access.
I think my post was a little misleading, CD, as it unintentionally made connections which shouldn’t have been there.
And it was purely a report on what he said.
He made one direct comment mentioning forums.
He made a couple of what I took to be indirect comments relating to forums, that may be wrong.
He did say he would be silent so we could listen to the engines in the displays.
When he said that in relation to the Vulcan there was a loud round of applause.
The crowd did mainly consist of supporters of VTTS.
He did apologise if we had already heard his display patter many times before.
My personal view is that he gave an excellent commentary.
I have no issues with repeating commentary at all there must be different people at each air show apart from the hard core air show followers.
The commentators presumably make themselves available for the work and like any job should be competent to do it.
If you are a foreign national giving a commentary in the UK you should be at least understandable in English.
I do not think it is relevant to say you couldn’t do it, if you engage somebody to do a job you expect him to do it competently.
In my view take off and landing can be very much part of the display.
I accept the need for a communication system that caters for all those who are attending the show.
IMHO it would seem that a split system or headphone/wifi system would meet everybody’s needs, or more likely a combination of both.
A large number of foreign nationals attend Legends and RIAT and may not speak English. A pre-recorded personal system in their language triggered as the display progresses.
This thread was started IMHO about commentators who never stop talking even over the display about matters not directly related to the display taking place.
However, any person who arranges the show and provides many of the aircraft has every right to engage as a commentator anybody he wishes, after all it is his show.
Surely the purpose of this thread is to provide constructive criticism with the intention of improving the enjoyment of the show, although I agree it does not seem so at times, but then that is the nature of all forums, and for fellow forumites to gauge the strength of support for any observations made.
And now what it was all about Farewell to the mighty Vulcan.
There are, of course, many pictures of 558 far better than mine so just a few that were unusual for me.
Not what was originally planned …..

WR963 stretching her legs. All went very well, just a slight reluctance for one engine to start.

Would this not be a case for trading standards?
Maybe they have been told their mistakes which is why the price has been reduced from £50 to £8.
What do people do with these coins anyway?
That was difficult to establish and this was not a public event. There does appear to be things in the pipe line both with the Shackleton along the lines of education and children perhaps obtaining more interest than just from enthusiasts. About CAF I wouldn’t know which is not surprising under the circumstances. I have seen negative comments on here about the Twin Pin but I did hear from a somebody who should know that it is just a question of cost, which is what I had been lead to believe in the first place.
Thanks for the discrete correction there Charlie, and I did look it up so my source had got it wrong .
I know less about commentators than I do about ‘planes, and I know next to nothing about planes.
He did the whole commentary and it was all good.
Thank you Consul I will have to brush up on my aeroplane identification. Correction made.
Thanks to all for a truly excellent day. The buffet was excellent. Thanks for the extra camera holes in the fence!
The atmosphere was excellent and it was a pleasure to see the Classic planes operating and obviously the successful highlights of the Shackleton taxi and Vulcan display. Both much appreciated by the crowd as I am sure you are already aware.
Today’a commentator at Coventry was Sean Maffett and he was very good. He did seem to be aware of forum comments and was silent during the displays. All talk was relevant to the display. He apologised if we had heard his commentary before. Personally that isn’t a problem as long as it is about the aeroplanes displaying and not some anecdote.
There was no music, we didn’t see a pleb all day and no annoying children. We had a great day. Everybody we met were very nice people but of course it was a private show so no general public.
The commentator at Coventry was Sean Maffett and he made a very good job of it.
