With both Beermat and Moggy on this one. Good piece on the media but do have to consider that some involved people might find it offensive so Beermat you have done the gentlemanly thing sir.
Why? The grieving relatives and friends will in many cases want the human tragedies to have faces and names. Many people have offered opinion on media – many have paid tribute to the lost.
The media will move onto the next story by week end . Our national tragedy is probably duplicated in terms of people lost every hour in some parts of the world.
Not talking about the events achieves nothing – the AAIB will
do its work – patience will be
mandated and what happens on
the FlyPast Forum won’t affect
tragic history or how we pray for the pilot and the lost and grieving.
Sorry David I cannot type fast enough on the mobile my comment did not relate to you. I will always use quotes in future!
Rather than a D notice how about every time anything air related happens just temporarily shut down this forum until the CAA has published its report.
One could ask why are you reading it then?
As, of course, you fully realise it is the press that are the problem as on the whole this forum is well regulated

It is at times like this that I feel the old D Notice system should be re-introduced, but in these cases embargoing ALL personal opinions on air, road or rail accidents!! It must be appalling for relatives of the dead and injured to be subjected to sensationist journalism at every turn…….but I realise that it will never happen!:(
I was thinking along similar lines but had not thought of D notices. Why not just use sub-judice where by the Coroner opens and adjourns the case and the case is not allowed to be discussed in public. This would surely protect the grieving from the media and the pilot from incorrect allegations which never go away.
Funding of Clacton airshow
I don’t think anybody could possibly dispute that but the point being made is that nobody at this stage knows if there was any other contributing factor and that comments, however expert, that directly blames any individual are best made in in private to the appropriate authority and for that authority consider all the available evidence to come to the best possible conclusion and then make that public.
What I find strange is that there have been many thousands of hits on this thread presumably most by “guests” in view of the comparison of numbers viewing at any given time, 17/75 right now, that not one single person has joined to make their views known and more specifically to make comments like we have seen in various media sites. I wonder why this is?
Both pprune and this forum come up in a search all be it on page 3 or 4.
Runway and Smith. Thank you for drawing my attention to the fact that I had not considered that some of the”guests ” would be forumites who had not signed in. A valid point.
However, my point, which I thought was clear, but obviously not was that NON forumites who had views similar to those being expressed in the media comments section have not come on here to argue their point of view. The observation was not aimed at any forumites logged in or not and as your post make clear you do not hold views that are not broadly in agreement with what appears to be the consensus of opinion on this thread.
I apologise if I have unintentionally offended any body.
“None of us is perfect”
sorry couldn’t resist.
Does not “None” specifically refer to Captain Brown? So not sure what you couldn’t resist.
Whilst this is perfectly true, who cannot be in awe of the man, the fact remains that there may have been other factors involved and until that has been ruled out as best as is possible I do not think I would wish to come to any conclusions.
Well one can hardly say that this expert is unqualified technical anyway. Whether this is the best thing to be saying at this stage is highly questionable and somewhat surprising to me anyway.
Just so there is no misunderstanding my comment referred to the large number of unregistered viewers who did not feel strongly enough to join and put a contrary view. It was certainly not aimed at forumites who felt that they had nothing to add.
Exactly but we are avoiding discussing this directly for good reason, this is certainly my belief but await the official report.
Beermat if only that were true! Sadly with the demise of the N of the W did they boycott the Sun on Sunday? No!!!!! But try buying the Sun in Liverpool and live.
Bob it is no longer only the red tops I’m afraid. Have you seen the Times recently or the London Evening Standard maybe not as bad but newspapers?
I for one will never buy the Sun again. Oh wait……..empty threat.
I think it would be reasonable to say that broadly speaking forumites are in general agreement that airshow safety record is excellent as is the maintenance of these aircraft and that the skill of display pilots is probably the best in the world. That the actions that have been taken are reasonable under the circumstances and in relation to the specific cause we should await official reports. Many would say this is understandable because of the nature of the forum and they would be right.
