Did we really expect anything else? This is what sells papers, when I see the Sun, and others, I seriously wonder why anybody buys them at all, but they are the best sellers, are people’s lives so empty they need this drivel, or am I an arrogant snob? That’s a rhetorical question by the way.

If they bother to report the investigation findings it will be tucked away at the bottom of page n.

At least when and if the pilot recovers and recollects the details of what happened, we will know what happened and the speculation will be ended.

Let’s hope when, but considering the extreme trauma it is quite possible nothing will be remembered.

Agreed but is not flying over the crowd at any time not allowed others than with special permission? Who gives this permission?

Yes indeed they are but I would suggest that they would not ignore requests in either direction, which was my point.

Sorry Charlie only entered your name when I didn’t type quick enough, I know you new from your contributions to the Vulcan thread.

BBC are saying that the Strikemaster ” routine is being restricted” for the Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Not sure how an airshow at Dartmouth works.

Who has authorised the Reds to enter their display by flying in over the crowd, and why do they want to do this?

I am sure if the CAA asked the military aircraft not to perform certain manoeuvres that they would comply.

Charlie. In fact completely the reverse is argued in that displays are too sedate.

    Thanks Mike

I can’t believe “social media” or here. People are already saying the restriction apply to the Reds and Typhoons and BBMF. What bit of civilian (as in CAA) owned vintage jets do people not understand?

It is really that hard to understand? This Civil Aviation Authourity (CAA) ruling applies to…civil aircraft. The Hawks are…military aircraft.

I think the poster I commented on and myself understood that, what is of interest is when does an aerocraft become Vintage and does it differ between in military service and civilian ownership.

Hunters are still in use both here and in the States in connection with development work but are privately owned. Do we know why the one in the States crashes a while ago?

    • Also, ‘Vintage’ does that rule out the Red Arrow Hawks?.

Exactly my thoughts. How old are the Hawks now?

I do not think you have thought this through hampden98. I am sure others will be along to explain why.

They do charge at Southport. At Eastbourne which has been running for a good number of years, there is sponsorship and bucket collections. Huge crowds are drawn to Eastbourne as there is considerably more for the family than at the average airfield show. I would imagine that parking fees bring in a good amount. Then extra custom brought to businesses is likely to encourage sponsorship and the bigger long established companies like to be seen to be involved.

Llandudno is of course small and unknown but was in it’s third year. This is heavily supported by the Mostyn Estate to bring trade to the town and draws in many thousands. Llandudno also has a very successful Victorian Extravaganser. Costs supplemented by bucket collections but I would have thought in this case heavily funded by the Estate.

Rhyl show is next weekend, do not know how funded other than by bucket collect. By N Wales standards very well attended and Vulcan on Saturday this year.

As well as a different time; different people much more mentally robust.

Totally different world and spectators had survived the war. I would think people had a very different view on “risk” then let alone h & s.

    I agree.

To ask a historic question…was the Mosquito lost doing aerobatics or was it a technical issue?

The crash at Barton was, despite all the public speculation, an engine technical issue but I believe they had been doing a display but not what would be called aerobatics.

This is from memory please correct if wrong.

. A sedate remainder of the season for XH558 beckons.

I think that was already a given and now a certainty.
(Sorry bit slow just catching up)

It puts our discussion on the Vulcan thread into a whole new light.
