I personally wouldn’t call a +3G loop by a Hunter a ‘High Energy Manoeuvre”. I wonder how it will be defined?

Do you mean at the enquiry?

Very well said Dunbar #196 couldn’t agree more.

What draws the general public to airshows? By “general” I mean the non enthusiast like members of this forum. We all know, but I haven’t seen it mentioned, the Red Arrows effect. Large numbers of people turn up just before the Red Arrows and leave immediately after irrespective of where they appear in the show. And what do the Red Arrows fly and what do they do in extremous? They fly fast jets in close proximity including whilst performing aerobatic manoeuvres. It is what the general public come to see. However, I would suggest that possibly many forumites are very happy just to see iconic planes in flight and that aerobatics are a welcome added bonus.

I refer you to the 2nd paragraph of my original post on the subject:

It is quite easy to argue that given the accident rate (note “rate” not number of occurrences) that we have merely been lucky rather than diligent. You can bet your bottom dollar that there will be some highly paid QCs deploying just that argument.

    exmpa

And what evidence will support this argument? The fact that there has been no accidents. I am sure that is due to the skill and diligence by all concerned. This is what will be said including by the CAA.

Although I am sure you are right about the QC but that is their job.

How to prove innocence: there have been no public fatalities for a very, very long time, that is not luck at all.

Today all our thoughts should be with the families amongst which will almost certainly be lost partners, children and parents. It is fortunate that most of us have not been put through this form of life changing trauma. What I do know is these untimely deaths will affect friends and relatives for the rest of their lives. There will also be many who survived or witnessed this terrible accident who will also be dramatically affected.

And my thoughts are with the pilot, who stayed with his plane, and his family and hope that he makes a full recovery.

My thoughts are with these people and I respectfully ask other forumites to put themselves in the position of the bereaved and think, not once, but many times before making any public comment or observations on here.

These beautiful and iconic planes are, relatively speaking, for peanuts assuming the estimates to be accurate and cannot possibly reflect the restoration costs.

But, of course, the purchase price is only the thin end of the wedge.
An organisation who can maintain them and display them is required that is going to be around for a long time and this is where the real cost lies. Somebody has already mentioned VTTS and that could be a winning solution all round with the people’s aeroplane turned into the people’s air force. Would this collection not be more viable than the Vulcan on it’s own? VTTS also have all the skills to raise the necessary money to save this collection for the country. They could sell shares in the aeroplanes which would entitle you to some free flights etc.

That’s very good to know Rich at least as far as the Shack is concerned.

Presumably there will be serious implications for the Shack and Nimrod?

What happened to the “membership” scheme that was started 3 or 4 years ago which was aimed at helping to keep the aircraft flying? Did it get cancelled or are folk still contributing? I must confess I had a look but backed away.

I looked fairly recently but it was I little bit too rich for the two of us although it did offer flights as part of the package. I would have liked to support and would have done if available at a lower price without any fringe benefits. Maybe many thought the same.

The title of this thread is misleading and should now be changed, possibly to Biggin Hill 75 event report or some such.

The resident L4 put in an appearance while we were waiting for the event to begin.
