I would have interpreted that as a no then just that these things take a long time.

Oh, THAT Canberra!! I was only thinking of it being in the restoration hanger.

I have no further information from the visit and the latest update I could find was 12 months old. http://www.warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/air-base-canberra-progress.html

I note that when in flying condition it will be the only official record holding jet in the world still flying.

    Here is WK163 last Saturday.

The Gemini is in parts the fuselage high up on a ledge in the rear section of the restoration hanger, rat her por picture posteoporosis #30. There is also a wing so possibly that is Gemini to. In the front restoration hanger two Rapides are being worked on, one with a long way to go. I will post pictures next. I will have to look about the Canberra as I do not recall seeing it. I don’t know the Canuck so again I will take a look if it was visible I probably have a picture gower I have no further information about intentions or progress. As already mentioned CAF are trying to source the wing attachments for the Twin P and I believe going to have to make them when they can find the drawings. The existing attachments were life expired.

It had been intended for the Percival Pembroke to display in the airshow but it wasn’t possible to get it CAA certified in time. Very soon this aeroplane will be back flying.

Yep, thanks Geoff, let’s hope they get it back. It’s bad enough when it is your property but when it was somebody else’s it reflects on everybody. It just never ceases to amaze me the depths some people stoops to especially when they have been trusted.0

    Link is now not found.

It is shameful that even enthusiasts can not be trusted it spoils it for all. Let’s hope it is recovered.

Even if some sort of paperwork was produce unless it was from some very credible aviation archaeologist who is still alive and can verify it would still not pass muster. assuming they are from a mosquito, and one part looks engine related, then possibly they may be worth what is being bid anyway. Others will know.

Curious about the Miles Gemini visible in one of the Twin Pin shots. Which one is it?

Wish you had said that it was up on a shelf, it was quite some time before I spotted it!:Dhttps://farm9.staticflickr.com/8707/17172871108_4e3433201c_b.jpgMILES GEMINI G-AKDK by p_meddemmen, on Flickr

Both the trip through the Shack and the Nimrod were £2 in the case of the Nimrod guided parties of about 6 although 4 would have been more comfortable but would have produced larger queues. Our guide was ex RAF Nimrod flight engineer. In the Shack you made your way down the airframe with members on hand along the way to explain things to you. The later method does give you greater photo opportunities. The Shack is enter at the back and out through a front bottom hatch which was good for flow but not for my long suffering wife but she did eventually manage to lower herself down onto the platform ladder. The Nimrod was in and out the back which was a struggle coming back from the flight deck. These are NOT criticisms merely a description there are after all few options. The important thing is lots of bods going through with income for both planes. Both are totally different and both a must do. For the Shack experiencing the smell alone is worth the £2! The pictures are OK but they are to show how complete the insides of these aeroplanes are and how worthwhile a visit is. Clambering down the Shack’s fuselage over the two main spares needs to be experienced.

    The Nimrod Tour.

On entering the plane you are just aft of the two six barrel rotary sonobuoy ejectors. Unfortunately it was too crowed to get a picture or a picture aft.

Unfortunately access was understandably not permitted to the flight deck due to previous occurrences of vandalism and theft. The aeroplane is live and performs engine runs but not on this day.

Moggy, I deliberately used the word area as even I had worked out that it is undesirable for the prop to hit the ground.:D

I know nothing about prop design but I was assuming that thrust was related to area of the prop and with the limitations on length the obvious thing to do is increase blade width. My question was that presumably there is limitations on width or is that just a factor of blade strength at the hub. Now you’ve done it I’m off to find out at least the basics. Off to that highly reliable source of all knowledge.

I see that there is an efficiency gain to be had with CRP and with the constraints mentioned by Rich the solution becomes viable to harness the power of the Griffon. I couldn’t see with my layman’s eye but I think the basics are first prop takes “straight” air in and produces a lot of tangential flow, as it would have to to produce the aerofoil effect, this is captured by the second prop and in effect straightened out again increasing thrust and reducing tailplane disturbance. A bit like a divergent followed by the same power convergent lens? Is that basically right?
Now I need to know why Griffon and that is presumably because of the higher all up weight of the Shackleton or are there other factors relating to long range operations?

Rich, It was a pleasure to meet you, your brother and other members of your team clearly an enthusiastic and friendly bunch. We arrived shortly after 09:30 and even then there was pleasant congestion through the fuselage. I hope you had a very successful day and collect lots of money for WR963.

Thanks for the info re propeller length restrictions please see my reply to Moggy.
