Can I be selfish and greedy here and name two.

    Ray and Mark Hanna.

Sadly both now gone but never forgotten.

    Great photos on that link.

Just goes to show which metals will corrode in that type of water and those that survive quite well.

This is why I just paint my models to the best standards that my limited skills allow and leave it up to others to decide if they like it or not.

I don’t really care about being 100% accurate just as long as its a good representation of the aircraft I am modelling.

The modelling is supposed to be fun not stressful.

Save for those who have experienced war, I do not think we have the faintest idea of what it was really like.

What I will remind you of is that there are a great many here who have and will have experienced war first hand and that post first hand opinions.

Others have never experienced anything except COD or some other rubbish on their Play station who post their view of war while slightly warped with computer generated scenes and television images of war their view is as important as the next man.

And others like myself who have never experienced war but who have cleared defined views on war and what is important and what is not.

I feel this thread has given a really good discussion for once with some really well thought out opinions. I have to say I agree with a lot of what is being said for once and on both sides of the opinion too.

    Interesting very interesting.

To consider it sport, however ‘light hearted’ the comment was meant to be, does a great disservice to all those who have experienced war at such close quarters.

    Kev,

We are all different and see things in so many different ways. We barely ever agree on any subject especially when it comes humanitarian issues shall we say.

I am not going to kid myself that I could ever begin to explain to you or anyone else for that matter my sense of humor and how I see things.

What ever our views different or same I know there is a mutual understanding and respect.

We rarely see eye to eye really though do we?

    Paul178,

Do you remember the conversation we had about the Para’s.

My corporal was in 2 Para and the guy in the article in the mail probably knew him and shared the same battles as he did. Do you believe me now with what I was saying at the time.

Here is a small clip from that report just to let you see.

“As the argument went on, the boy crumpled to his knees. Finally, somebody threw a tarpaulin over him, shot him, and finished him off with a bayonet. That was it. We moved on.”

This happened a lot more than people in Britain want to believe.

I have no gripe with you either Paul I just remembered the thread on which you questioned my stories authenticity shall we say.

Back to the German. I believe that he probably thought that he was doing the right thing. War is war and a baling out crew is still an attacker until imprisoned I guess so really going by that ethic he was only doing his job. As for the Mustang pilot he did a double good job. Once for destroying an enemy aircraft and twice for being able to come round and shoot the other pilot from out of under his ropes. I have no problems really with either side of this. I see it simply as war. The rights and wrongs of war are for human kind to decide on and learn from so that we may never make the same mistakes again.

But always there is one nation who gets big ideas. Heed my warning I dont know where or how but WWIII is coming. Hopefully never in my lifetime for I have seen enough of war and dying in general.

Scouse, I am sure to a degree you are right and as for orders to shoot parachutist etc I am sure there is a thread on here somewhere that discussed the whole subject to death.

No squabbles here just stating that a spade in my world is indeed a spade. I don’t see this world in the PC way or humanist way that many do. I see it for what it is.

Ask anyone that I know aswell and they will tell you my sense of humour while dealing with sensitive subjects. Its not to eveyones taste.

    Cant please everyone.

im sure all of us would have done the same but I dont think the “Loverly bit of sport” is called for do you!! ?

Sorry you don’t share the same opinion as me but that’s your entitlement.

What do you want from me. To feel sorry for the Luftwaffe pilot that just gunned down several of the P-51 pilots comrades??

The Lufwaffe pilot clearly crossed the line between combat and sport and got what was coming to him.

Lovely bit of sport was a light hearted comment to reflect a good job done.

If you dont or cant take it that way then thats your problem.

Thank god we have the freedom to choose not only our words but our opinions.

If it were not for these guys then where would we be.

Its not some kind of old film equipment is it Ian??

Just with the Mic and Film knobs below the number. Also L/F H/F and what looks like P/O right at the end.

Looks more post war than wartime too.

Number more than likely a stores reference.

Look forward to hearing everyone’s views on what it is. Someone must surely know.

If you look at this page http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?&product_type_id=2677&scale_id=955&manufacturer_id=8274 It should give you a fair idea of what is available. The other thing is just to make sure your spit had this kind and colour of code and then your laughing. You should be able to make it up from whats available. If not there are other ways to do it.

Ie getting someone with a waterslide decal printing expertise to make the actual set for you or getting some film and cut a mask out to paint the codes and serial on.

    Thanks Cees,

If this came from a wreck then there is only one B17 that I know of in the Edinburgh area that it could have came from.

I have my doubts that it came from the local area at all other than that B17.

My only other thoughts are that one of the ATC members maybe brought it back from a trip to the Cheviot hills. As most will know there is substantial wreckage all over the place there. Not impossible to find a nice piece of wreck for a display item there now is it.

Any other thoughts guys but a bit of a long shot.

    Hi guys,

If these parts are from an Edinburgh area wreck and from an edinburgh ATC squadron then there is only 1 B17 wreck that I know of in this area.

Is this part possibly from a Liberator?

I know of a wreck near Edinburgh.

Also the pod. Could this be linked to any other aircraft such as a Javelin etc?

I know of a wreck nearby if that is the case.

Never had the pleasure of actually meeting him but I was at a number of engine runs at East Fortune where this photos appears to be. Never will forget the look on his face running those engines and will never forget the great big smile it put on my face.

Heres to wishing him that same look on his face and oily hands in the here after.
