One of the Engines has been displayed at The Museum of Flight at East Fortune for many years. Dont know if its still there as I havent been down for some time but I cant see them getting rid of it.

I seem to recall there was mention of something off this wreck being at Lennoxlove house near Haddington as Hess had been trying to get there to contact the then Duke of Hamilton.

Thats as much as I know about it.

I am sure one of our lads has the crash site logged somewhere. I suspect there will be fragments like another local site to me that had been picked clean at the time. It was a Heinkel 111 and crash landed pretty much intact but the odd bit twisted metal is still being picked up in that area. However the last piece I seem to remember hearing about was found around 5 years ago and nothing since.

    Apologise to all.

My mistake was in thinking that the cycle in the websites statement was for a dusk till dawn cycle and not for a complete month.

I think you will find I didnt make a statement but meerly misunderstood the information given to me in the website making the statement.

Sorry for trying to understand better myself. Clearly I misunderstood quite a lot of things.

Clearly I wont be offering an opinion on things I clearly have no understanding off in the first case.

Just remembered why I dont post much anymore.

    Bye.

I guess this is the answer to the first question then.

“The Moon’s orbit is an ellipse with the Earth at one of the foci, and it obeys Kepler’s Laws in the same way that planets do. Perigee is the point in its orbit when it is closest to the Earth and at this time the Moon will appear largest in the sky. At apogee the Moon is at its furthest from the Earth and appears smallest in the sky.”

The webpage has an illustration if your really interested.

I guess the earth moves around the sun in the same fashion so it creates the same effect.

I thought it was kinda obvious. I never took any classes about the planet and only visited the Edinburgh Observatory once. Clearly must have made an impression. lol.

    Graham,

Dont just listen to one guy. Take your book to another for a second opinion and try again. And try some of the smaller publishers too. I am sure someone will show interest in the book even if its only a limited run. It gets it out there at least.

I think a lot of people have forgotten one small fact.

Its not all just about the coffee its about the atmosphere and meeting friends over a coffee.

Starbucks do this rather well even if the coffee is only barely passable. Other brands come a close second with me Costas then whatever else is left.

Oh I forgot one thing though. Most of the people on here wont have a clue what I am talking about as you lot dont have friends do ya.

LOL you know I was only joking right. Right!!!

Personally know of a licence application last year that was pretty straight forward. Granted within 3 months of application and no unresolved issues with the items recovered.

I would tend to think each application has different merits and as such needs to be looked at. But I think there are a lot of different issues right now. A lot of issues that need resolved.

I would also suggest that if people hadnt been so blatantly brutal about recoveries all those years ago then we may not even need a licence now. But these are the rules we need to abide by for our hobby.

I know that this is only a small part of the problem and the reasons are as wide and varied as any other problem we have today.

I know of a case where it took me months to organise a licence through several different agencies and the landowner and several months later (cant remember how long) was declined the licence ignoring the fact that the site was just dug a couple of years previous. I then received a phone call the following October saying to reapply as the case had been reviewed and a further application was likely to be sucessful. This was really good of them to phone me but at the time my personal circumstances changed and I was unable to follow through on the application.

I have also been point blank refused a licence for a German aircraft that I know of. As has my recovery partner. They claim it to be refused on the grounds of incendiary bombs on board and to possibility of remains on board. My partner has proven the remains to have a burial because of the records and the location of the grave as well as other evidence. And he proved that the incendiary bombs were released before they hit the ground because they were dropped on a local farm when they could not find their target. I suppose what the MOD think regards the remains could just be based on the reports they have and not this modern evidence. And the possibility that the aircraft had a hook up with the bomb load is another reason not to grant the licence. My partner went out to prove that the bombs were all dropped and indeed was able to prove that they had been via an eye witness. All in all we were both a little dissappointed but thats life and we just have to get on with it.

They make the rules and we just have to try and follow them and get round them somehow if a recovery is that important. The above examples are just there to show some of the problems encountered. Not as an example to slate the MOD as they are just doing what they are told from higher up.

    Regards Scott

Put quite simply if I had an infinite budget. I would have one of each.

With rebuilds made of those no longer existing.

Or build a few flying replicas of those no longer available.

Halifax being the first main one for my list.

Always wanted to do a model of one of these. A flying model. Never quite got there.

Correct me if I am wrong but that was the whole thing about the big issue wasnt it. It was meant to be sold by the homless etc?

But in the end it turns out that most of the people selling it actually were in accomodation. This is certainly true of one guy I know locally and of a number of big issue people I have spoken to over the years.

I often wonder how Kev from Edinburgh is doing. He was a champion kickboxer until drugs got the better of him. He ended up on the street and ended up getting clean and selling the big issue. Last I heard of him he had a house and was working on getting a job. Last thing I heard about him. One of the sucess stories of a sort. The guy really wanted to turn his life around.

I never like to think of myself as anything religious at all. I dont care for the many labels society gives those without religion in their lives. Why does everything have to have a label? Why cant it simply not just exist in its own little world?

Anyhow I am not religious in the slightest and am certainly not christian. I do however believe I have christian values as well as my own set of beliefs on how I like to treat others and be treated.

I also have many stories of homeless and charity cases having lived and worked around Edinburgh for all my years.

Bumblebee I believe you acted correctly and should you meet the young man again (who is my age and I often think if I had stayed in the army this could have been me.) that you should do exactly the same again and help him. However if you never see him again put him out of you mind and think of him no more. You did something good and whether he was out to fleece you is neither here nor there as he didnt con you in any way in the end. He either was as genuine, distressed and suffering as you thought he was or he thought better of stealing from such a kind person. Either way you will have your reward in heaven.

I remember several times in Edinburgh but here are a few of my favorites.

The girl who was begging for money on Lothian Road who was wearing a brand new pair of Armani jeans Nike trainers which were £120 at the time and a mobile phone. She also had a bunch of other stuff hidden in her backpack which all lay under her dirty old blanket. Needless to say I didnt give her any money.

The old guy and his buddies who asked if I had any change and I said no but they could have this bottle of coca-cola I had just bought. I had only bought the bottle of coke so I could get change for the phone. So no he couldnt get my change. Imagine my surprise when he took the bottle but when I looked back I saw him putting it in the bin. I laughed as I knew they were the real homeless wino’s.

Then there are the hundreds of other beggars you see on the street. All of whom I never give money to. My future mother in law is far too kind and gives them something in Edinburgh whenever she sees them. Something I dont agree with but if I can help in other ways then at some point in my life I will. I always do talk to them though if they ask if I have any spare change I always reply to them I never just walk past and ignore them. The genuine beggars usually always say thank you but the con artist normally say nothing or just give abuse under their breath.

It is hard to tell if someone is genuine or not so I always take a cautious approach. I am just like that and I have more problems financially than they ever will have. So maybe once I have sorted my life out I can dedicate more time to helping them.

My heart goes out to everyone of the genuine homeless and I couldnt care less about the wasters and thieves.

    Just my opinion.
