Well Merlin,I’m delighted to know that any child’s life is more important and precious than mine.I don’t see how you or anyone else can put a quantitave value on life.ALL life,however short or long,is precious.Naturally as adults we protect children and I’d willingly die for my daughter,but I wouldn’t presume to value anyone’s life as being “worth” more than anyone else’s.

as I said in my post we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

I am in no way trying to say your life is worthless it clearly isnt.

I suppose it is each individuals set of ideals that they have. In which during the course of our lives they change.

I reflect some of Old Shapes comments about jumping into the river to save some children. I personally would have to save them some other way as I cannot swim very well but until put in that situation no one really knows. There are cases of people out there who cannot swim and who have jumped in to save someone. Very brave indeed or stupid depending on your own views.

I have no children of my own but have raised my step daughter and step son as my own for the last 13 years. I also have a neighbour who has just had a little boy. We (my wife and I) have grown very attached to the little one since he was born.There was a connection before he was even born. We are very fond of our neighbour and since she found out she was pregnant it has been hard for her and we have supported her along the way. In fact we were the first people she told. Now that he is here we support her still, allowing her to rest for a few hours by babysitting for her. But it is even more than just that.

Should anything ever happen to that baby (who is about 3 months now) I dont know what we would do. He is not my own but I would gladly give my life for his for a chance for him to have a full life. I have seen some of the world. The nasty vile place that it is. Yeah sure there are some good bits aswell but the whole world is riddled with rot.

My point well there is no point really but rather just the way I feel and think about things.

Why would you treat the killer of ,say a two year old,any differently from,say,the killer of a 19 stone female Ronnie Barker look-alike ?

Essentially on paper no. But emotionally as you put it yes. People sometimes wont read the paper twice if they see old mrs smith from down the avenue was murdered in bed due to a burglary gone wrong. But will read the paper 2 and 3 times over if it was about a child.

People do this. And people get emotionally involved when its a kid.

Would I kill? Could I become a murderer? Or someone capable of killing another due to circumstance?

Lets hope I never have to find out.

As I have said before BumbleBee a childs life is much more important and precious than any of us on here.

A child to a certain degree is an innocent. The way we shape them and the information we feed them determines their course in life. But then some just turn out bad no matter what you do.

If someone was about to shoot a child say a young child under 5 in this case for infomation only. Or would shoot one of us instead whether that be you or that be me. So be it. We have lived and seen things of the world. An under 5 hasnt. Or at least very little that they would remember.

And to say All life is to be equally respected. Sorry but we will have to agree to disagree.

Everyone should have the right to a decent way of life and for chances at life but once they cross the line and turn into “scum” as we are calling it here then they dont deserve a life whether that be a prison sentence or the death penalty I dont think it matters.

You don’t need to justify yourself or your career choices to [I]anyone[/I] in here.

The trouble with the death penalty has always been that nobody wanted it for everybody, but everybody differed about who should get off.

A very good point well made. This is the big Question.

A man who was said to have been very professional at his job.

I dont advocate everything that Old Shape does. I am not even sure that executions on TV would be a good thing but I understand where he is going with the idea. I think we probably do see enough violence on tv via the news to last us a life time and more.

Would I watch it if aired on TV?

Probably at least a few times anyhow. It would be public spectacle and I think most of the country would be a little curious.

When this came out I did indeed see the proper video and rest assured it was the right one and not a porn linked you tube video. It was in open domain and like many others over the world I wanted to see that he was dead.I watched it for the troops and people that were killed over there. I am not ashamed of this in the slightest. I did however not see the need to watch it again or rant on about it to others. And that is how it will stay. It has served its purpose.

And yes I would be quite happy to remove the above mentioned villians from society but you raised a very good point later in the post that is Where would it end. That is a question I can not answer because I dont know the answer. That is a question for the society of the time to think about and make their own judgements should we ever go down that route. Or society become more like Judge Dredd and have Judges on the street who are judge jury and executioner. I dont think so but who knows what kind of place this will be in 2100. Or will we be at all? the Human race that is not any of us here.

Also if I wanted to do that type of job as with the job I do now I would have to accept the terms and conditions of that employment and do what was required as and when it was required to be done. My present job being in agriculture is largely ruled by the seasons ie harvest/sowing etc and we are busier during harvest so usually work 7 days a week and then out of season usually 8-5 and 8-12 on a saturday with the odd call out and overtime. typical overtime in season would be till about 8 or 9 at night and could involve saturdays and sundays. So i am no stranger to difficult working hours etc.

as for the personal risk thing I dont really think it comes into this dicussion apart from the fact that you mention it. I was willing to lay down my life for queen and country once and would do so if required to again. But I am happy for others to be out doing a job they love instead of me. Had circumstances been different I would have been the one out there getting shot at however it did not happen that way and that is not the choices I have made for me. On reflection the sentence saying I am happy for doesnt look right and it should really read I accept that others are out there.

as I said circumstances have shaped my life but I was willing to have been shot at etc. I did join up knowing full well what I was getting myself into. In fact I was going to join up again going as far as going to the RAF recruitment office and having an interview there. The outcome of which was to go and get my civilian qualifications (at that time Vehicle Mechanics) and then come back and join up to be retrained as an Aircraft Technician. Again circumstances took over and that is not the path I went down.

I hope this shows that it is not a cowardice thing and rather just the path I have chosen.

and lastly Use of my Sunday name. If you know it use it. It doesnt bother me at all just confuses Old Shape somewhat. 😀

My comment was neither below the belt nor should it be seen as hurtful. You of all people should know that the slippery slope advocated by old shape, and I believe by yourself, has in the past led to the introduction of eugenics. It was even advocated in this Country.

If you have such a strong desire to kill criminals and murderers how about joining the Royal Scots who are sure to be preparing for a return to Afghanistan? Eradicating the world of the Taliban would allow you to satisfy your desire. You could apply to join them. Casualties are high so reinforcements are needed or is it only palatable to kill people who are handcuffed and unarmed rather than facing you with an AK47?kev35

Hi Kev well maybe I took your comments the wrong way and it touched a bit of a raw nerve but all the same the thread is about or I think it is about criminals being tortured to extract information and it has strayed onto the death sentence etc and that I have strong views on so expressed them.

But with my son being disabled something which I though you knew it was taken a little the wrong way.

Also the thing about joining the Royal Scots. Been there and didnt like army life. Things might have been different if I had a shorter basic training ie 12 weeks the onto the regs but I had already done 12 weeks and more and had the rest of the year to go. That and I think I liked what I had left behind far more than my mates in the army. Ie Family, girlfriend going to concerts etc etc.

Not something I would even consider today. Being to old to join now.

I fully support our troops in every way because they deserve at least that our respect and support even though we may not support the cause.

I was once willing to give my life for this country and should my garden shed be invaded I will defend it to my best abilities. But until then I can only support those who do the job that I do not.

No preference on whether they are facing me with an ak47 or if handcuffed I would have done either job but this is the path I have chosen for myself.
