Well said hairyplane.
I wouldnt actually want the firefly rebuilt after the fatal accident because of the families wishes. However if the RNHF have any sense at all they will strip out any savageable parts that are servicable so they can have another go should an airframe become available or to trade for parts for other projects.
just my opinion but then why do we go on building these aircraft to fly when the are getting old and the risk can become greater. Dont get me wrong as for me the more aircaft in the air the better but surely this raises the Static / flyable debate yet again.
What are your views.

Hi,
I was based there in winter 89 / 90 when it was an army camp and I know the runways very well as I do the 3 hangars that were there.
We lived on the H block closest to the tennis courts and the runways.
We used to have to run the strips to keep up our fitness and for our BFT tests.
The only aircraft that operated here then was the jump school training wagon cant remember the type though. We all wanted to learn to parachute as you needed you wings to get into the air despatch section of the RCT.
When I was there it was RCT and RAOC.
our squadron was 57 squadron Gale troop.
Does any one else on here recognise the period or squadron.
Any more question please just ask.
Thanks for that guys.

So unless the info hasnt been updated recently then HADL own it.
I’m a lumberjack and I’m ok.
Loved this the first time I saw it.
Also
Are you the Judean peoples front?
Fu*k off we’re the peoples front of Judea.
and
Ministry of silly walks
Just because it was so damned silly.
Hi guys. I think you will find the olympus was already at the museum long before the white elephant herself.
Something really needs to be done with the museum now.
I did notice that the nissen huts that were falling down are being repaired and that the one at the jet hangar had nice new window frames and aluminium sheeting over the roof. It will be nice to see them looking complete again.
Hopefully Concorde will give them a bit of a kick up the a*r*s*e to get the whole place running better.
Re: bolingbroke looks great!
***More info please….***
***Where did they get this***
Ex Strathallan collection the museum got this when Strathallan went under.
***and what are their plans with it***
Your guess is as good as our because we were told yesterday that the volunteers havent been allowed to work on it since last year and also there is no money for it at present.
***static***
This is probably the only choice that is certain. When it is complete it will certainly end up static.
***running***
Would like to see it but I would think not. Doesnt hold with NMS policy.
***flyable***
Now you are having a laugh. The only thing to come out of East Fortune flying is the aircraft the local PFA strut members have built and the one and a half Strutter they are building a replica of at the moment.
As an after thought. If we are going to Drem later then I will pack the trusty old P-51 Mustang for a couple of flights while we are at Drem seeing as this is my flying site. Subject to weather of course.
Anyone interested in seeing this is more than welcome to join me.
Ian, I forgot to say although I think I mentioned before that I got a peak in the radar room at EF I think it may have been the PFA flyin but this was a rather nice dispaly to see especially the Drone Hill model and the Lancaster radar mockup.
See you all tommorrow.
sounds like a good idea Ian. At least then we will be able to see her in her full splendour. At least externally to begin with. Well at least I would hope so anyway.
the sad fact is that they died.
This could quite easily have happened in everyday normal FAA service but it happened on a heritage job. I only hope that they died doing something they loved. And I know all of us aviation fans loved the displays they gave.
Gone but not Forgotten.
The Parachute was a little expensive for my tastes the last time I bought anything in it so I will be bringing my own lunch.
Going on holiday on the first week in May so am counting the pennies.
Alastair the shed you are talking about that has the jodel in it is just 1 or 2 hundred yards from where we fly our models.
If we are going on a Drem / Macmerry walk then I shall bring the plans along with me. I have all 3 for East Fortune, Macmerry and Drem.
A little sad to see Grant go as he was such a good guy and friend to me at the museum. Always had time for what ever piece of usless information I wanted to know. Best of luck to him in his new position and I am sure he will shine in his new role.
both me and my brother are coming along.
Saturday 24th 10am at EF.
Correct.
Anyone bringing any artefacts with them. I only have 1 that is slighly interesting.
“Are you the Judean Peoples Front”
And I think we all know what comes next!!
