Well, I’m praying for the Typhoon to turn up as advertised this time.
One of the reason I am praying too. the other being the sea fury
same here
Had news form Leuchars airshow organisers.
The Sea Fury is still planning to attend the airshow.
Good News so far.
Please send me 100Kilos Of Hagus to eat. 😮
Scotland Forever
Please just give up now first the English thing now Hagus.
A person called Gus laughing????????
Surely you mean Haggis that wonderfully Scottish dish.
It a total bugger trying to shoot one on the hills though and as they have 2 legs longer than the other 2 they can run round hills faster than I can with my 12 bore.
Thanks for the information Steve.
Ray Jade,
I saw a complete hunter advertised in Flypast magazine about 1 or 2 years ago for £3500.
Got to be a bargain.
Thanks Steve and Plazz for the information. And especially for the crew information it makes a big difference to me when we can actually relate to the names of those lost. It certainly completes the story of a very sad incident.
Steve do you have any idea who was the Pilot and Nav.
I can add all the details to our database. We already had the aircraft at Glen Ogle so wondered if the other Glen stated may have been another aircraft or a misread map which it seems to have been. We also had the correct serial number and code for the aircraft but nothing of the crew.
Thanks once again for the info.
Airfields wise there was in wartime use:-
Sumburgh :- is this the main airport for Shetland now ?
I have no idea
Sullom Voe:- which was a flying boat station.
Did it have a land borne runway?
Scatsta:- served as a satellite and land support base for Sullom Voe.
I would imagine that wrecks are going to be a broad mix of both Allied and Axis aircraft as bombers often had missions over Shetland and the allied fighters had to patrol.
Also wrecks will be quite well preserved if you know of or can find them as it would be very difficult to take large portions of aircraft with you on the ferry trip home or on a commercial flight. If any robbing of sites has taken place it will almost certainly have remained on the island.
Good luck and let us know what you found on you travels. And also we want to see loads of pictures when you get back.
Hi guys.
just my little contribution. Not very good but well at least I tried.
Photos have been reduced to 500 pixels wide for slower computers like mine.
enjoy. More to follow.
wasnt it the British Thrust SSC car the had an aircraft cockpit or something.
Well said hairyplane.
I wouldnt actually want the firefly rebuilt after the fatal accident because of the families wishes. However if the RNHF have any sense at all they will strip out any savageable parts that are servicable so they can have another go should an airframe become available or to trade for parts for other projects.
just my opinion but then why do we go on building these aircraft to fly when the are getting old and the risk can become greater. Dont get me wrong as for me the more aircaft in the air the better but surely this raises the Static / flyable debate yet again.
