David,
What a bloody good idea. We could have online competitions and see who had the better airshow.
Hey steve. It would still be nice to see that Halifax flying again though wouldnt it.
Kev,
I have never had the pleasure of meeting someone like you who can put thoughts into words quite like you. Also you have a great outlook on these things and have a different way of thinking to the rest of us and I find myself admiring the way you choose your words.
Thanks Kev for a different view.
And another thing I always though we had freedom of speech in this country or are there people working to take that away as well.
Well sorry guys but some of us actually do care about the content of the gorund show as well as the airshow. I for one do actually buy stuff from the stalls and as a matter of fact if you buy mail order or over the net you usaully find you pay a postage charge well why not cut that charge out and buy the same item at a show. I gather none of you have heard of Show prices. Item are usually priced lower than you would get from a shop or mail order.
And then there is the wait to get it through the post when why what do you know at a show you actually get to look at the item and buy it there and then to have it in your hand that day WOW what a concept how come no one thought of that before.
Also if I wanted to buy from a market stall I would indeed visit the Sunday Market at East Fortune which I have done many times in the past but when you go to East Fortune you do still have some quality aviation related items such as books and aviation print also model aircraft and other things. In the same kind of stall you often find that the RAFA have a charity stall so why not buy something form them and support their cause and usaully Vulcan to the Skies XH558 usaully have a support stall. ETC ETC.
Get the point yet.
I wonder how many people would actually stop going to an airshow if there were no ground interest at all. I think that might be quite a lot. There are a lot of people who go to the Airshow to sit and watch some planes but like some aircraft and not others so what do they do sit bored out of their skulls until something they like comes on. I think not. The majority of people that attend these airshows and help us see the aircraft we want to see are just Joe Public and not aviation nuts like some of the people here.
If there were some rule that said only Aviation nuts could go to airshows I dont think they would run the airshows for very long.
Also if anyone cares to read my post I havent just been going on about stalls which are in everyones interest I have also mentioned Aircraft as well and the effect that this has on the content.
I also cant remember saying I wanted to go to Duxford on any day never mind the same day as EF is on. I have said in another post that I woulld be attending EF over Duxford everytime as it is only 15 mins down the road from me. SO where did I say I wanted to go to Duxford apart form the wife saying we should organise a trip someday.
Hey guys hasnt this thread expanded. I never though a silly little post like that would open up a monster like this.
And Damien in regard to your last post **NO I didnt**

*****It doesnt matter a monkeys whether its on the same day as Duxford!*****
Well to some of us who can also remeber the museum being the one hangar and not much else it does matter whether or not its on the same day as Duxford. The last 2 years have seen a serious decline in Stall quaility and while the airshow has been filled to its limit the Warbird content has seriously decline in the past few year. Just my opinion but it doesnt go to say that I didnt enjoy myself just putting a few points across.

Couldnt agree more Ken but please could we add that they turn down the microphone that some of the stuffed toys stalls have to announce a winner and bag some more customers.
Hi Steve.
I live only 15 mins from East Fortune and thats where I will be this july as it seems silly to go anywhere else than a local show if there is one available. Good sensible idea.
I wouldnt bother missing legends for East Fortune unless you like the kind of format I have described and then it may be worth your while. My wife has already said that we should organise a trip down south when legends is on or anothe Duxford airshow but that would be in place of a holiday abroad and I cant do her out of a trip abroad or me for that matter.

DIGBY you say that i should stay home with the kids. I am one of those that hand over cash donations to the likes of the Blenhiem society, the Mark Hanna Fellowship and Sally B. Cash that as far as i’m concerned would be wasted in having to pay for kids to enter. My brothers behaviour was not down to parenting but to the fact that they hate aeroplanes and because it was a family outing had to put up with airshows. As far as i can see a childs interest in airshows does not develope until they reach early teens. Earlier than that, they get bored and want to play up causing parents to miss the action in order to entertain their boredom. I’ve been mad about aviation since before i could walk but i never started going to airshows until i was 12, as my father thought any younger and i wouldn’t appreciate it. Unfortunately my brothers came along and my parents decided it had to become a family outing to which my brothers hated. It drives me mad to see puchchairs being pushed around when the contents haven’t got a clue as to what is going on around them and the noise of the jets starts them crying. Either leave the wife at home with them or if she likes the airshows drop the kids off at the inlaws.
Actually we plan our son carer around airshows. If there is an airshow then he will be with his carer.
My son is disabled by the way thats why he has a care worker.
He like somethings at airshows but gets bored easy when yo uhave to sit there at the flight line for hours on end. Not very nice for him and certainly not nice for me or the wife.
Damien.
Not getting Arse* about anything I just know the impact that Duxford has on EF.
Folk that can get to Duxford well goody for them. Like Ken said there are only 2 decent shows up here in scotland and like him it WILL be a day at East Fortune for me as well but the standard of stall etc has been seriously effected by the date move.
Damien Quote
***It’s got sod all to do with dates and more to do with economic reality***
Actually it has. Have you ever been to EF. If not then how can you possible comment on the content of the Ground show or Airshow. IF yes then please come again and see what effect it has had for yourself.
Going back to stalls before last year I could count on 2 hands how many print stalls there were each year. And last years quoted audience was 11000 people. Not big compared with Duxford but enough to get traders to travel. Last year I could count the print stalls on 1 hand and to be honest there was only 1. before there were at least 7 different stalls and a lot of book stalls.
I will wait and see what this year is like but you may see this post again if its still the same.
And as far as aircraft goes I would like to put it to you that for the last 4 years the OMFC have been attending EF and the display were great all apart from last year when the date changed and they werent there. HMMmm Can we guess why?
I really think that folks down south are Spoiled for choice when it comes to airshows and aircraft attending I dont think they would put up with the 2 airshows we get up here.
I went to Leuchars for the first time last year and what a thrill that was. Just loved it as it was more than I expected. EF Last year was great as well apart from the warbird point of view. We had the BBMF boys who bend over backwards to try and be in two places on the same day and we had a spit here and there. To be honest I cant actually remember every single aircraft but there wasnt as many as previous years.
I think that EF is a unique show with a blend of something for everyone. From Aerobatics to civil flypast to Red arrow to Hunters and other jets to warbirds and gliders but it doesnt mean it cant improve.
We used to get 3 days of flying with classic wing on friday 5 – 8
saturday all day and sunday then it went to Saturday only what happend there. Money ran out thats what happened. We did however start with 1 day only.
Ken I am not sayiny that half the population goes off to Duxford but if we could do a national poll of Scots who go to Duxford then there would be a hell of a lot. I kid you not when I said Half our flying club go down to Duxford. They are already planning their trip and it isnt that far away.

First service at 1 hundred thousand mile cant be bad with guaranteed part replacement cant be bad. I have watched afew programmes about this and personally I agree with the rumour that he was framed. Imagine how much british business would have lost if these cars lived up to their reputation. Not the most pretty car in the world but I would still have one.

Does anyone remember betamax video players. These were better than the VHS format but VHS flooded the market and betamax flopped because they didnt get the same marketing.
Was it the same for DeLorien cars. These were better more reliable and longer lasting cars but would have put a lot of other cars out of business so the were disappeared.
sound familar. All done by greater marketing and better businessmen.

Hi Der,
You or I cant say that for sure now can we. The only people who can say this for sure are the CAA. Surely we should support the cause until the end even if it seems to be a lost cause.
