Blue 2 – now I can understand your anger. But if it was your daughter and you had an organ to spare, would you be quite so judgemental?

It was nearly light outside, when I got up this morning but I automatically switched on the light, thereby wasting electricity, because there was no Met Office warning that it was getting light earlier.

PMN – yes, to a point. Of course we must take responsibility for our own lives and that is one of my bugbears, that so many no longer do because the wretched state has been steadily taking over that role for a decade. But, are we all only alloowed two chances? I am not so sure. And perhaps we should put ourselves in her family’s shoes and consider what we would feel and how we would act in similar circumstances.
I think I am closer to Bumblebee than to you on this, so it has nothing to do with the sex of the poster!

I have been reading this thread in two minds. I think it poses a very difficult ethical question, and one which confronts us, although not personally, every day.
Do we take the view that society as represented by the populace, discards any interest in preserving or saving life due to the irresponsibility of an individual’s way of life and actions? Or does society, caring or compassionate, if those are applicable words, have a responsibilitty towards its citizens to help and to cure? For example do we breathalise a severely injured driver and if he or she is over the limit leave them to bleed to death because it was their fault? Or do we take them in an ambulance to hospital and attempt to save their life? At present we do the latter.
Are there posters here who would leave them to die?

Moreorless
The ever growing nanny state and wondering if its pernicious progress is inherently British.
Yes, I am sure it is and is one of the reasons I spend as little time in the UK as possible. The other 4 are:
Rudeness, bad manners and general incivility
Selfishness
Hypocrisy
Disinterest from shopkeepers ( computer says no )

I had exactly the same thought as scotavia until I read your post, so…………it could still have been a set-up with the passenger, probably a Ryanair employee. Or is that stretching incredulity too far?:D:diablo:
