    I think the point is what did happen, rather than any number of hypothetical “what might have happened”. As it was, presumably you would agree, both aircraft won it at the time.

    That is indeed an interesting observation but not quite the same thing as saying that it ws the Spit wot won it. In the circumstances both aircraft won it, especially as the Hurricane dominated in the early stages due to numerical superiority. And of course there is always Galland’s famous remark to Goering, although whether that is true or apochryphal, I am not certain.

    Not the only people, there are people that also spend alot of time and go to great effort researching official records, aircraft design, personal log books, and interviews with the people involved etc that would be qualified to pass some sort of judgement.
    Just aswel as the veterans sadly diminish in numbers.
