Kabir – you just mentioned two of my favourite European cities. I fell out of love with Paris several years ago.

Nah, we’ll be space hoppin in a thousand years. What’s the death date of the Sun? About 3 billion more isn’t it?

Or, do you think we’ll be zonked by an Asteroid, or a nuclear war?

Whatever our fate I’m sure it will befall us long before the sun starts to die.

Al – – “just because aircraft are flying in Europe, doesn’t mean that it’s safe to do so…”

The inference I draw from your statement is that aircraft are being flown in the full knowledge that it might not be safe to do so. I cannot accept that that is the case.

It is much more likely that they have proved to their total satisfaction that there is no danger involved and that yet again the UK Met Office modelling has been found suspect, despite its massive computing power. The problem with modelling is the the information the computer is given to work with – it doesn’t do it on its own.

With only a basic understanding of these matters I have been following and contributing to this thread with a slowly increasing sense of utter bewilderment.

The UK seems to be acting almost alone in Europe, using meteorological information quite different from that which continental Europe uses. Result – confusion.

The irony is that in one area where it really would make total sense to have a single European authority, we have two, which do not co-operate. Madness!

Let’s leave Brown out of it – for now. There must be some knowledgable members here who can shed some light on the increasingly anomalous situation. There have now been a great many aircraft flying in France, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Germany at every flight level and no emergencies as far as we know. So, something just does not add up. Is some authority somewhere really putting thousands of travellers at risk? No, of course they are not.
