Whatever their source it is enabling much of continental skies to be open whereas ours remain closed. Bizarre or what?

Looking at radarvirtuel ( running well now ) I think some of that BBC info is out of date.

It’s 50 years ago and the Cold war has been over for 20 years – is it that sensitive?

On the face of it I cannot see how your contention can be disputed. But is is not about modelling now, it is about reality, isn’t it? Either the cloud is where the Met Office and NATS say it or it’s where Eurocontrol say it is. They can’t both be right.

Well that would answer part of my question and beg the question of NATS, why we are not flying?

That is being widely reported this morning. Nevertheless it does not explain why many countries in Western Europe have flights at all levels, whereas all I have seen in the last hour or so are flights from the continent transitting our airspace at high altitude. Does anyone have an explanation?

Thanks for that, Blue. It’s got its props but looks to be missing both ailerons and possibly an elevator. It’s sitting on its belly so the undercarriage may be there and retracted or missing. See how Mr H responds.

I’ll bet you did. Gotta be better than the other sort of rumour, so fingers crossed it’s true. We’ve got to support the forum members here.:D

Most of them come by foot/car and sea, don’t they? But quite a good thought.:)

That spyflight website comprehensively answers the question originally posed, I think. Very interesting.

Depends on which site you are using.

FlightRadar24 doesn’t have any coverage over SW France whereas RadarVirtuel does and shows pretty heavy traffic streaming up from the Iberian peninsula direction

Neither show that much in the Denmark area at the moment (1252) but there have been quite a few coming over from Sweden.

One of the few originating flights showing in the UK at the moment is the Icelandair flight from Glasgow TF-FIX ICE431

Thanks zoot horn. I was looking at 24 because Virtuel kept crashing. Looking at the position of the ash cloud how is it that Schiphol seems so busy whereas Heathrow, 300 kilometres to the West is closed?
