How many flights has the PAK-FA achieved, 40 is it? Thats pretty sluggish considering they’ve had a whole year now. I would expect the J-20 to surpass that mark soon and by the end of the year it’ll probably have flown more than both PAK-FA prototypes.

Its not the total number of flights. How long is the duration of each flight , what changes you make between flights , how many parameters you can measure in each flight that matter.Flying the aircraft a hundred times without any change in its config will hardly get you anywhere.

    Interceptor missile successfully destroys ‘attacker’

In a successful interception test, an indigenously-developed Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile destroyed an incoming target missile, a modified Prithvi, at an altitude of 16 km over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday.

According to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources, the modified Prithvi, which mimicked an incoming enemy missile took off from Chandipur, while the interceptor was launched from Wheeler Island within a few moments. As the “attacker” missile reached a height of 120 km and began its downward trajectory, the AAD equipped with state-of-the-art guidance system zeroed in on to the target and destroyed it at 9.37 a.m.

There is no evidence to suggest that China would be able to attain or maintain any semblance of air supremacy over Taiwan for any length of time unless the US wants it to.
But maybe its high time that the US disentangles itself from any Taiwan scenarios. The main concern should be the percolation of sensitive US technology to the chinese through taiwan.
Infact the US state dept site says..

Maintaining diplomatic relations with the P.R.C. has been recognized to be in the long-term interest of the United States by seven consecutive administrations; however, maintaining strong, unofficial relations with Taiwan also a major U.S. goal, in line with our desire to further peace and stability in Asia. In keeping with our one-China policy, the U.S. does not support Taiwan independence, but it does support Taiwan’s membership in appropriate international organizations, such as the World Trade Organization, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and the Asian Development Bank, where statehood is not a requirement for membership. In addition, the U.S. supports Taiwan’s meaningful participation in appropriate international organizations where its membership is not possible.

Problem is there is no trusting the commies ..now Taiwan , next Senkaku ,then..!!

I read that Russian fighter prototypes progressively change to look closer and closer the final intended design. I was expecting the second prototype would be more… Raptor-ish in streamlining.

Why should it have to be Raptor-ish? Does a Flanker have to be Eagle-ish or Falcon-ish?The PAKFA design is quite nice from all perspectives.

Except for a small still to be settled matter regarding the forward visibility of the fan blades..which is very confusing.

Russian ejection seats obviously work very well, so that’s to be commended. The loss of an aircraft on the other hand isn’t.

I am not sure of the statistic. If I am not mistaken from 1988 till today only current fighter crashes in airshows excluding all other types including trainers etc.

    Mig 29 crash – 3
    Su-27 -3
    F 18 – 3.
    Su 30 – 1
    F 16 – 1
    Harrier – 2
    F 14 -1
    F 117 – 1
    Gripen – 1

    OT anyway.

In contention for the planned 75-aircraft deal are the Airbus Military-promoted PZL-130 Orlik, Alenia Aermacchi M-311, Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano, Grob G120TP, Korea Aerospace Industries KT-1 and Pilatus PC-7.

It cant be M311  It is turbofan and jet trainer. Not basic prop trainer..

Russia launched on Saturday one of the final satellites needed to complete a space-based navigation system, which Moscow hopes will challenge the dominant U.S. Global Positioning System GPS.L.
The satellite, Glonass-K, which was launched shortly after 06:00 local time (0300 GMT), reached orbit, said Aleksei Zolotukhin, spokesman for the Defence Ministry’s space forces.
