One of the last of the modified leander class (the other being INS taragiri). Was being used for training. Was to be decommissioned later this year or next year.Got a slightly early retirement..
a Tejas Mk2 image by some fan of Livefist blog..not sure if Tejas Mk2 will get canards or not, but Ajai Shukla had mentioned that it would get Eurofighter like canards, way back in 2008..but since DRDO is going to display the Tejas Mk2 model at AI-11, we’ll probably get a good idea of what design changes they intend to make on the new variant.
I dont think the change would be that drastic..even noticeable.A few changes here and there ..may be the intakes or a small change on the wing or body to improve the aerodynamics.Any drastic change means it will take another 3-4 years at the very least.
i know this may have been asked before, but is the final decision solely in the hands of the IAF? This wouldn’t be the first defence procurement where the military decide on one thing only to end up with something more politically attractive.
I don’t think they will yield to US pressure, so i don’t think they will buy SH.
No.The final decision will always be with the political establishment.
Unfortunately the only few lines on AMCA i can find from google is some generic comments in wiki, which is a bit odd if India is serious on AMCA.
Do you have any equivalent to GAO in India ?
IAF ASR’s have been given..
which include ..
wt < 25 tonnes
twin engined
stealth with internal bays
more indigenous components.
2 bln funding for preliminary design work for 2 tech demonstrators and 7 prototypes and first flight by 2017.
according to current design :
With aerodynamic design optimisation near complete, the AMCA’s broad specifications are final. The aicraft will have a weight of 16-18 tons [16-18 tons with 2-tons of internal weapons and 4-tons of internal fuel with a combat ceiling of 15-km, max speed of 1.8-Mach at 11-km. The AMCA will be powered by 2 x 90KN engines with vectored nozzles.

Ahaa, a fully digital military transport – landing in a C: drive near you…;)
(I just thought it was a bit strange commenting on the aesthetics of an aircraft nobody has ever seen in the flesh, that’s all. The KC-390 will be a nice looking airplane though- if we can judge from photoshop renderings…)
😀
I hope they are not planning on a change of design now with the scheduled first flight in 2014…so there is every chance of the aircraft looking like the one on the picture..;)
…
btw..congratulations to the Japanese on winning Asian Cup by beating the OZ..
The US just recently stated that India could join the F-35 Program if it wanted. So, I see very little reason why it wouldn’t partner with India to develope a 6th Generation Fighter. (i.e. man or unmanned)
I was talking about the 5th gen AMCA not the 6th gen..
And joining the F 35 program wouldnt benefit India in any technological way in dvelopment of the AMCA.
And IAF wouldnt possibly need the F 35 either with the FGFA , mmRCA , and AMCA in the works. The only requirement for the F 35 is by the Indian Navy to operate from the future carriers where there is no other options.for that we can get a few airframes once the F 35 tech has matured and delivery schedules have regularised.
here’s what India saying..
With own 5-Gen fighter project with Russia, India not keen on US jet
[ or maybe if we screw up the AMCA we could have a second MRCA :rolleyes:competition between the F/A 35 super lightning II, PAKFA mkII , KAI KF-X and the Mitsubishi ATD-X ]
Plus, the Super Hornet is the frontrunner in the MMRCA Contest.
What?When ?Where?
There has been many angles to this competition so far.Best would have been to scrap it and fill the deficit with mkis. But since its going to happen , the next best thing is to select that aircraft manufacturer who will help partner the development of the AMCA as well.In that way if we see..
US-naah ..they have their own
Rus- FGFA already happening
UK- Have already surrendered their aircraft industry to US/nothing much to expect
Fra-going directly to UCAV?
Sweden/Saab – most viable option.
apart from developing the AMCA , Partnering with Saab will also help in marketing the fighter worldwide. The AMCA can fill the requirements of those countries who want to go for a medium fighter (not heavy like pakfa), for whom chinese is not an option(plus its heavy?) and who dont want the expensive F 35.
The best picture of Dhruv so far…
From military photos..c/o Sandipan @brf

I’ve never seen a ‘KC-390’, what does it look like??
Beautiful lines of the KC 390..

I think the KC 390 and A 400 look much cooler…
Whats the latest in Russian UAV/UCAVs?Any news or new developments?TIA.
