Good job with the aerostat.Currently it has the Nishant’s EO payload. The two imported aerostats have the EL/M 2083 which are supposed to be similar to the 2080s.What are our options? A variant of the LRTR?or maybe the XV 2004?

Specs XV 2004 [c/o kprasad BRF]

    XV2004:
    – SV2000 Mk.2 version
    – Mainly designed for Rotary and fixed wing platforms – has been belly mounted on the Dornier (a pic was shown). It is now in service.

The upgrades in teh XV2004 are:
    – New mapping mode added, which includes radar signature and ISAR ship image mapping & classification
    – The requirement for the ISAR was at least 3 m resolution – they have achieved 2-3 m as required.
    – Hardware has been upgraded
    – The processor is new and upgraded
    – The Bandwidth is 60 MHz
    – A new array stabilization system was developed for fixed wing operation.

    Primary Modes:
    – Sea Surveillance
    – Air Target detection

    Secondary modes:
    – Weather and Navigation mode
    – SART beacon
    – NEW – Mapping mode – Range signature, ISAR Ship imaging and classification.

{{They showed an ISAR image of a ship – it was excellent – 2-3 m resolution. The type of ship was automatically classified, and the length calculated as 82 m.

    The image was better than the ISAR image that was taken from an Israeli image taken from their Eitam CAEW AWACS, which I have talked about before – the ship classes were about the same, as were the sizes. However, the Israeli one also demonstrated a 3D ISAR image – I am not sure if that is a processed version of the 2D image.}}

The radar has achieved 1 m2 detection (submarine snorkel) at 20 nm distance. This is beyond the required range that was asked for in the requirements. The range signature can measure the length of a target to within 2 m accuracy.

And the strap on boosters are designed and built in india or are they derived from Russian tech aswell? I assumed the boosters were derived from the missile programme?

    Boosters are indigenous.
They have been developed by ISRO – no connection with any missile program whatsovever.
The boosters have worked fine in the last 6 launches.

Was it a Russian or localy assembled cryogenic engine?

Its not the engine.Preliminary speculation is that it was the strap on booster.

    Abstract:

The Indian Air Force is projected to induct a large number of 5th generation fighter aircraft within the timeframe of 2025. This poses serious challenges for the numerically smaller Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The paper suggests UCAVs as a possible solution in countering India’s military aviation threat to Pakistan. Pakistan can develop UCAVs in the same manner they developed the JF-17. The argument is in favor of UCAVs to supplement 4th generation fighters and enumerates an active and specific solution for PAF.

Could you please let our Prime Minister know that? 😉

Well…the MEA has already said it that we wont be accepting any aid from April ’11 , but since you insist , I will put in a personal word next time I am at 10 Downing street :p

But Britain is still giving hundreds of millions of pounds per year in aid money to India.

Indians dont want the aid okay…as the foreign minister has said it already??[“It is peanuts in our total development expenditure,” he said. ]
The aid just amounts to 0.4 % of our GDP.

By the way ever think of returning us all the jewels and stuff the Brits looted from India as a colonial power ….?

Rookh, what you originally said was…

That’s because the ‘indigenous’ akash missile is nothing more than a copied SA-6 with updated electronics.

..which is far from the truth.externally it may look “similar” (not same), but the two are completely different missiles. One is sarh other is active.internal architecture is different , support systems are different , missile performance is different. So I dont know in what way it is a “copy”.In that way , if you put the electronics of patriot missile in a SA 6 fuselage with the AN/MPQ 53 radar etc , you may be able to claim that the patriot is nothing but a copy of the SA-6 with changed electronics.

It seems that Indian Cabinet committee on security has cleared 30 bn $$ for procuring 250 – 300 PAKFAs and delivery is expected from 2017.
