Well I am impressed, and I am not from Dublin, although I would love to live there! This is a very nice addiction for DUB and I hope that it will work for them.

BA LHR-EWR-LHR in Economy for £42 all in! TWICE!

This was last year BA had an offer of £100 off any WT fare, then they also had a very good sale so a fare of £142 was possible, not bad, however, there was another discount code in a property magazine gave another £100 off and for about 6 hours all three offers worked together! So I booked two trips to New York, one after each other. BAs website soon realized it should only be giving one discount per booking but I still managed to get two trips out of it.

There was a better bargain at the time using the above offers meant that Club World (business class) was available for only £600, but £600 it still a lot of money to me so I passed. I bet I will never see long haul business class for that price again!

All the BA long haul 767s now have new club world flat beds (not to be confused with new new club world!) World Traveler Plus and World Traveler. All seats have PTV. The fleet is being fitted with AVOD, last time I looked about a month ago 5 or 6 had been done, the rest have the standard 18 channel IFE. Hope this helps, I love BA 767s, don’t know why but always find them really comfy.

It took over 9 hours for my BA767 to battle its way from LHR to EWR the other week! PHl to DUB on the way back was only 5 hours 20 minutes though.

If you see PAX number quoted in a trip report the author probably just overheard or asked an FA. You often hear the FAs telling each other how many are on bored, and if I miss that then sometimes I will just ask.

I agree that there is a lack of focus on the long term development of European airports but there are many reasons for this, on the other hand I think that you maybe overstating the involvement that European government has in Airbus.

I am no expert on this but as far as I know the amount of public money directly spent on Airbus is very little, if any. (i did say I know very little about this didn’t I?) 😀 What ever the amount is my perception is that very little is spent and public perception about public money is all that really matters.

As for airports remember, as others have said, European airports are very different that those in the US. They are usually privately owned, or at least run as if they are privately owned, with airlines sharing facilities such as gates and baggage handling.

There future development has to be commercially viable. I do not know why some US airports have so many runways when some very large Euro ones only have one or two, but you can bet is largely down to money. An extra runway does not guarantee extra income and certainly that is one reason why the a380 is a good option for European aviation.

It is nearly 4 in the morning, I am a bit drunk and not really an expert but I hope some of this helps. Never be afraid to ask a question on this forum, even if you are not sure what the question is, there are some very knowledgeable people around here and one of them will figure it out.

Does anyone know if they will keep the 31″ seat pitch found on their scheduled services or will they squeeze it to a more traditional charter setup?

Thanks for the help guys, Gran Canaria sounds like a winner to me. Anyone know what airline/aircraft type that would be?

Most airlines’ FF programmes have links with other airlines, even those not in any formal alliance like Virgin have many airline and hotel partners. The best thing to do is look at where you will most likely be flying. If you do a lot of economy European trips with occasional long haul flights then bmi’s Diamond club might suit. You can get silver/gold status relatively easily and they let you use miles+cash, which means you can use money to top up you miles. Foe example a business class trip from Europe to the USA or Canada would be 37,500 miles + £255 cash + tax. This is great value and includes stopovers and connecting flights, all in Biz class.

BA would not be so good in this situation as you get virtually no miles on there cheap (and not so cheap) tickets. However if you do a lot of business class travel then BA are more generous and offers far greater choice of European destinations.

Personally I like bmi because you can get a very healthy balance pretty quickly with a few transatlantic trips and there credit card offer.

Bottom line if you travel every week on BA then join them, if you are always on Virgin go with them. If you want a mix of airlines pick an airline from one of the big three alliances (Star, oneworld or skyteam). There is little point in joining too many though as having a few points in loads of accounts is no use at all

WOW are really good at what they do, even when things go wrong they are better than most at sorting out coaches and hotels and things. Love the DH8-300, just a bit more feral than the tame Q400 in my opinion. I just wish they would come to EXT and cover some of the gaps in FlyBe’s service like AMS, BRU, ORK, ABZ…

Well I am now living in Exeter again after a few years up north (I really miss LBA!), and I can tell you that the problem with 6Gs ORK link is not the stop on the way but the fact that NO ONE knows about it!!

I fly quite a bit, I read this forum, I try to keep informed of what is going on in the travel trade partly for work and partly because I am interested, and this is the first I have heard of a flight from EXT to ORK!! As far as I was concerned EXT is FlyBe-Land, oh yeah and Skybus.

Air Wales really do know how to keep a secret.

En-route stops are not too bad, I used to fly WOW from PLH a lot last year and the stop in BRS was really not a problem, and it meant another takeoff and landing, cool… 🙂
