The front is where you access things most easily,so the front is the bit nearest me.If I’m in the bakers buying a sticky bun that’s right in front of me, then that’s the FRONT of the counter,it sure as hell ain’t the back.( I don’t often buy sticky buns,in case the person who called me FAT when I first got on here reads this.You know who you are ).

You’ve entirely got my point,i.e it’s not in the CAR because it’s in the BOOT !! I consulted my daughter,and the little weasel said it WAS in front of the numberplate.She then added You Really Should Get a Life Mother and Hubby chimed in with the often-repeated Why the Hell Can’t You Just Think Like Everyone Else.

…er…..actually it’s in front of the number plate…..if it were behind the number plate it wouldn’t be in the car! 😀

Seriously, the position of everything in (or on) a car is described from the viewpoint of the driver, sitting, facing forward.

The boot’s open.Here’s me,here’s the numberplate,here’s the object.If I have to reach OVER the numberplate to get to the object,then to my tiny female brain(!)the object is BEHIND the numberplate.

As the boot is part of the car, and the car is facing away from the direction that the boot opens, the object is at the back of the car. The front of the boot would be directly behind the rear seats.

If you put your wallet in your back pocket it’s not at the front of your backside is it?

You access your wallet from in front,therefore it’s behind you.You open the boot from the back of the car.If I have to reach over with my short little arms,that’s the back,not the front.

No need to be sorry,obviously he and you see the car as one whole entity,whereas to me ‘the car’ and ‘the boot’ are two distinct locations.

Sadly,until recent times women hardly made history at all.Look at the great artists and composers – all men,because Mrs. Beethoven and Mrs. Picasso were too busy washing their socks and making sure there were enough toilet rolls .
