My neighbour, with everything to live for, hung himself and his ten year old son found his body.
That’s horrific. My sympathies to you.

I took this photo in my late Dad’s back garden this afternoon. The two animals were in the garden for about twenty minutes, quite unconcerned about each other.

For my dear aviation-mad Dad who died today, the day after Mum’s funeral.

Interesting subject. Having grown up in the age of The Goon Show myself,I’m surprised how much my taste in comedy has changed.
The fifties were pretty good for comedy in my view, what with Tony Hancock and Take it from Here ( I loved the Glums ),Al Read,Eric Sykes and my two particular favourites,Michael Bentine and Alfred Marks.
I remember as a child being in stitches watching Mr. Pastry and Norman Wisdom, but I don’t find them remotely funny today. What amuses me most now in my old age is sarcasm,as purveyed by Harry Hill and the wonderful Bob Mills.
The recent rise of,for want of a better phrase, the comedy of embarrassment,is something I never would have imagined all those years ago.Series like I’m Alan Partridge,Peep Show and The Office would have been unthinkable then, but I’m not sure why that is. Maybe people were,in a sweeping generalisation, ” nicer ” then ?
Having said that,I do find this type of comedy funny, and I like it when it’s done ever so subtly in Flight of the Conchords.
I’m not mad about the casual acceptance of bad language in everyday situations, but one modern series where it’s heavily used makes me cry with laughter – Rab C. Nesbitt on BBC 2. You’d probably need the subtitles on for Rab’s thick Scottish accent, but for me these episodes of Rab retaining his dignity while being in the very bottom rung of society are an absolute joy.

My 88 year-old mother asking me to tell her mother that she won’t be home tonight.

Half past eleven in the evening, and that’s being generous.
I’m not bothered though, I’m often up until 2 a.m.
